iMPORTANT: if removingthe batteryfor any reason,disconnectthe
NEGATIVE(Black)wirefromitsterminalfirst,followedby the POSI-
TIVE(Red)wire.When re-installingthe battery,alwaysconnectthe
POSITIVE(Red) wireto itsterminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE
(Black)wire.Becertainthatthe wiresareconnectedto the correct
terminals;reversingthemcouldchangethe polarityandresultin
damageto yourengine'salternatingsystem.
Cleaning Battery
Cleanthe batterybyremovingitfromthetractorandwashingwith
a bakingsodaandwatersolution,ifnecessary,scrapethe battery
terminalswitha wirebrushto removedeposits.Coatterminalsand
exposedwiringwithgreaseor petroleumjelly to preventcorrosion.
Battery Failures
Somecommoncausesfor batteryfailureare:
• incorrectinitialactivation
• Overcharging
• Freezing
• Undercharging
• Corrodedconnections
Thesefailuresare NOTcoveredbyyourtractor'swarranty.
JUMP STARTING
Neverjumpstarta damagedorfrozenbattery.Becertainthevehicles
do nottouch,and ignitionsareoff. Do not allowcableclampsto
touch.
1. Connectpositive(+)cableto positivepost(+)of yourtractor's
dischargedbattery.
2. Connecttheotherendof the cableto thepositive(+)postof the
jumperbattery.
3. Connectthe secondcable negative(-) tothe negativepost(-) of
thejumper battery.
4. Connecttheotherendof the negativecableto the engineblockof
the tractor,awayfromthe battery.Attachto anunpaintedpartto
assurea goodconnection.
Ifthejumperbatteryis installedon avehicle(i.e.car,truck),do NOT
start the vehicle'senginewhenjump startingyourtractor.
5. Startthetractor(as instructedin theOperationsectionof this
manual).
6. Setthe tractor'sparkingbrakebeforeremovingthejumpercables,
inreverseorderof connection.

Ifyourtractorhas notbeenput intouse foran extendedperiodof time,
chargethe batteryasfollows:
1. Set yourbatterychargerto delivera maxof 10amperes.
Ifyourbatterychargeris automatic,chargethebatteryuntilthe
chargerindicatesthat chargingis complete.If thechargeris not
automatic,chargefor nofewerthan eighthours.
FUSE
One15AMPfuseisinstalledinyourtractor'swiringharnesstoprotectthe
tractor'selectricalsystemfromdamagecausedbyexcessiveamperage.
Ifthe electricalsystemdoes notfunction,oryour tractor'senginewill
not crank;firstcheckto becertainthat thefusehas notblown.Itcan
be foundunderthe fenderon the leftside of the unit,onthe wiring
harnessjust abovethe battery.
Alwaysusea fusewith the sameamperagecapacityfor replacement.
LUBRICATION
Beforelubricating,repairing,or inspecting,alwaysdisengagePTO
(BladeEngageLever),moveshiftleverinto neutralposition,set
parkingbrake,stopengineandremovekeyto preventunintended
starting.
Pivot Points & Linkage
Lubricateall the pivotpointsonthe drivesystem,parkingbrakeandlift
linkageatleastoncea seasonwith lightoil.
Rear Wheels
The rearwheelsshouldberemovedfromthe axlesonce aseason.
Lubricatetheaxlesandthe rimswellwithan all-purposegreasebefore
re-installingthem.
Front Axles
Eachendofthetractor'sfrontpivotbarmaybeequippedwitha grease
fitting.Lubricatewitha greasegunafterevery25hoursof tractoroperation.
Steering Rack & Pinion
Once perseason,orevery25hoursof operation,it will benecessary
to lubricatethesteeringrackand piniongearlocatedunderthe frontof
the unit. Usingstandardautomotivegrease,applygreaseto thefront
side andrearsideofthe steeringrack,as indicatedin Fig.41.
