INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL INFORMATION
INSTALLATION METHODS
Recommended Uses:
• Residential applications on all grade levels
• Floating, Single-Glue and Double-Glue applications
• Interior use in dry, heated areas.
Suboor and Preparation:
• All suboors must be at, clean, smooth and dry
• Sand any rough surfaces and/or uneven joists
• Fill any cracks on concrete or panel joints wider than
1/8” using a recommended patch/leveling product
Product may be installed over:
• Double layer wood construction over joists or
trusses up to 19.2” on center
• Single layer APA rated Sturd-I-Floor T&G,
minimum 23/32” over joists or trusses up to
19.2” on center
• APA approved underlayment grade plywood
• Oriented strand board (OSB)
• On, above or below grade concrete
• Sound Gypsum based topping and
lightweight concrete
All wood and concrete suboors must be at
within 1/8” over a 6’ span, or 3/16” over a 10’ span.
All areas must be checked prior to installation.
Floating Floor Installation:
• Be sure the suboor is clean, smooth and free of
dust and debris
• Unroll the SoundStep Luxury Vinyl Underlayment and
place embossed side down to the suboor.
• Make sure that underlayment seams run perpendicular
(at right angle) to the long dimension of the planks.
• Underlayment must be positioned with a minimum 4”
separation between seams of underlayment and seams
of nished ooring products
• Trim the perimeter edges of the SoundStep Luxury Vinyl
Underlayment ¼” from the wall
• Butt seams together and seal using a good quality
single faced tape
• Install the oor covering product according to the
manufacturer’s instructions
Double-Glued Installation:
• Be sure the suboor is clean and free of dust and debris
• Unroll the SoundStep Luxury Vinyl Underlayment and
place embossed side down to the suboor.
• Make sure that underlayment seams run perpendicular
(at right angle) to the long dimension of the planks
• Trim to t the SoundStep Luxury Vinyl Underlayment
into the target areas.
• Move the trimmed-to-t underlayment to the side to
apply the adhesive
• Apply a recommended pressure sensitive adhesive
using the ooring manufacturer recommended trowel
• Once the adhesive has ashed (dried to a tacky touch)
place the trimmed-to-t underlayment into the
adhesive
• Butt seams together and apply 2” wide clear packaging
tape centered over the seam
• Roll the adhered SoundStep Luxury Vinyl Underlayment
with a 100 lb ooring roller
• Mark starting lines on Underlayment for placement of
nished ooring product
• Apply a recommended pressure sensitive adhesive using
the ooring manufacturer recommended trowel
• Once the adhesive has ashed (dried to a tacky touch)
you can begin ooring installation according to the
manufacturers recommendations
• Make sure the staggered end joints fall at least 2” away
from the underlayment seams
• Follow ooring manufacturer recommendations for
expansion gaps and installing transitions in large span
applications and doorways
• Roll the nished oor with a 100 lb ooring roller
• Be sure not to slide ooring into position which could
potentially displace adhesive
Nail down hardwood (solid and engineered) Installation:
• Be sure the suboor is clean and free of dust and debris
• Unroll the SoundStep Luxury Vinyl Underlayment and
place embossed side down to the suboor.
• Install underlayment in opposite direction to the
laminate or hardwood oor. Start in a corner and roll out
underlayment, installing it ush to the walls.
• Continue the next row in the same manner until the whole
room is covered. You can tape the seams but it is not
necessary.
• Install the hardwood per manufactures written
instructions. Install baseboard slightly o oor to avoid
anking path.
Trim and Molding:
• All nish trim and transition moldings must be installed
without binding or restricting the free movement of the
above nished ooring products
