More Efficient Automated Parking Using Active Ethernet I/O
Intelligent Transport System
Architecture Requirements
The often tiresome search for a parking spot is a familiar dilemma for any
resident or visitor of a modern city. Automated parking garages help improve the
situation by letting drivers know the exact number of available spaces in real-
time. However, after a driver enters the lot, a laborious and frustrating search
may still be required to find one of those spaces.
One provider has come up with a simple but effective solution using MOXA’s
Active Ethernet I/O. For each section of the parking lot, an ioLogik E2210 server
is installed with distance sensors for each parking space. Using the ioLogik
server’s Click&Go feature, a simple control logic is defined where an indicator
lamp turns on automatically when a parking space is available. When all spaces
in the area are occupied, the lamp turns off.
This solution is easy to implement and provides an ideal combination of
simplicity and effectiveness. With the provider’s system in place, drivers do
not have to make slow, frustrating laps around the lot to find an empty space.
Drivers can simply glance at the indicator lamps to find out immediately if there
are any available spaces in an area.
