Truck Loading Station with Local Control
The basic support structure for commercial transport is provided by trucks
and truck loading stations. With rising fuel costs and constant pressure to
deliver greater quantities in a shorter amount of time, it is essential to maximize
operational efficiency wherever possible. A prominent Asian cigarette company
has developed an automated guidance system to streamline operations at
their truck loading stations. The guidance system uses an optical sensor and
warning light to indicate when a truck is in proper position for weighing. The
sensor, warning light, and control room PC needed to be integrated, but using a
traditional PLC would be difficult and expensive. PLCs require specialized ladder
programs, which would raise programming and maintenance costs. In addition,
a PLC solution for this system would require a separate and expensive Ethernet
module, for which there is no easy way to communicate directly with PCs. The
cigarette company found a much simpler and more effective control solution
using MOXAs Active Ethernet I/O.
