Getting Started CAUTION: Before using the phone for the Getting Started first time, read the Important Safety and Legal Information included in the gray-edged pages at the back of this guide. 032259o What’s in the Box? Your wireless phone typically comes with a battery and charger. You can purchase other accessories to customize your phone for maximum performance and portability.
Optional Accessories This label identifies a feature that requires an optional Motorola Original® accessory. Battery Use To maximize battery performance: • Always use Motorola Original® battery chargers. The phone warranty does not cover damage caused from using non-Motorola battery chargers. Getting Started Caution: To prevent injuries or burns, do not allow metal objects to contact or short-circuit the battery terminals.
Getting Started The rechargeable batteries that power this product must be disposed of properly and may need to be recycled. Refer to your battery’s label for battery type. Contact your local recycling center for proper disposal methods. Never dispose of batteries in a fire because they may explode. 10 Warning: Never dispose of batteries in a fire because they may explode. Installing the Battery You must install and charge the battery to use your phone.
Your phone is designed to use only Motorola Original batteries and accessories.
Charging the Battery Getting Started New batteries are partially charged. Before using your phone, install and charge the battery. Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles. Action 1 Attach the charger into the phone, and plug the other end into an appropriate electrical outlet.
Turning On Your Phone Action 1 Press & hold for 3 seconds. Adjusting Volume Press the up or down volume keys to: Getting Started 2 If necessary, enter your 4-digit unlock code (the last 4 digits of your phone number) and press OK (+) to unlock the phone.
Making a Call Getting Started Action 1 Dial the number. Tip: If you make a mistake, press the clear key C to delete the last digit. Press and hold C to clear all digits. 2 Press N to make the call. 3 Press P to end the call. Note: You must dial the phone number from the home screen. See page 26. Answering a Call When you receive a call, your phone rings and/or vibrates and displays an incoming call message. When the phone flip is closed Action 1 Open the flip to answer. 2 Close the flip to end the call.
When the phone flip is open Action 1 Press N to answer. 2 Press P to end the call. Changing the Call Alert Getting Started Note: If the phone is locked, you must unlock it to answer the call. Phone Flip Open Volume Press the down volume Buttons button to switch to lower call alert volume, then switch to vibrate and, finally, silent alert. Press the up volume button to cycle back from silent alert to vibrate and then to the lowest alert volume setting.
After scrolling to the desired alert style, press the smart key to save the setting and return to the home screen. Viewing Your Phone Number Getting Started To view your phone number from the home screen, press K #. Your phone number displays after 2 seconds. 16 While you are on a call, press M > My Tel. Numbers.
Highlight Features Taking a Photo To activate your phone’s camera: Shortcut: You can also activate the camera by pressing and holding the camera key for 2 seconds. Pictures Menu Options When the camera is active, press M to access the Pictures Menu. The Pictures Menu can include the following options: Highlight Features Option Change Resolution Change Quality Change Brightness Change Contrast Change Image Style Add Image Border Camera Light Mirror Effect Multi Shot 20 Description Select Low (160X120), Med (320X240), or High (640X480) Select Low, Medium, or High. Modify the image brightness to adjust for lighting differences. Increase or decrease contrast.
Option Night Mode Shutter Tone Picture Status Sending a Multimedia Message A Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) message can contain media elements including text, photos, pictures, animations, sounds, and voice memos. You can send the message to other wireless phones and to email addresses. Highlight Features Delete All View Used Space Description Set the camera to adjust automatically for low light. Change the sound the phone makes as it takes a photo. View current settings for all camera options.
Action 1 Scroll to [New Phone Number] or [New Email Address] and press K, enter the new number or address, and press OK (+). Highlight Features or Scroll to a phone number or email address from the Contacts list, and press K. (You can select multiple numbers and/or addresses from the list.) 2 Press NEXT (+). 3 Enter message text. Press M to access these options: Preview—Play the multimedia message. Insert—Scroll to the desired option and press SELECT (+) (see table following these steps for options).
Action Entry Mode—Select Numeric, Symbol, Primary, or Secondary (see page 33). Entry Setup—Select TAP or iTAP (see page 33). Subject:—Subject or title of message. Cc:—Message copy recipient(s). Bcc:—Recipient(s) of message copy, not known to other recipient(s). Highlight Features Flip Layout—Reverse the sequence of text and multimedia object. 4 Press NEXT (+) go to the next screen, and make the desired entries: Priority:—Set to Normal or High. Read Reply:—Indication that message is delivered and read.

Selecting a Menu Feature You can access most of your phone’s features through a system of menus. The home screen shows 4 icons that represent 4 of these menus. Press S to select one of these icons and open the corresponding menu. Learning to Use Your Phone Press M to display the main menu.
Selecting a Menu Feature From the home screen, select a menu feature as follows: M > Contacts Find the Feature This example shows that from the home screen, you must press M, then scroll to and select Contacts from the main menu. Use S to scroll, and the left/right soft keys to select the functions listed in the bottom left and right corners of the display. Selecting a Feature Option Some features require you to select an item from a list: Press BACK (-) to go back to previous screen.
Entering Text Some features require you to enter information: New Contact Name: No: Type: Work Voice Name: Ringer ID: Press S to scroll down to additional items. Learning to Use Your Phone CANCEL Highlighted item $ CHANGE Press CHANGE (+) or K to enter or edit information. Press CANCEL (-) to exit without making changes. DONE (-) displays when you enter or edit information. The message center lets you compose and send text messages.
Choosing a Text Entry Mode Multiple text entry modes make it easy for you to enter names, numbers, and messages. The mode you select remains active until you select another mode. Press M > Entry Mode from a text entry screen to select an entry mode: Use your preferred entry method (iTAP or Tap Method). Numeric Enter numbers only. Symbol Enter symbols only (see page 39). Secondary Use your alternate entry method (iTAP or Tap Method). You can also press the # key to cycle through entry modes.

Tap Method Text Entry Rules • Press a number key repeatedly to cycle through its characters. See the “Character Chart” on page 35. • If you do not press a key for 2 seconds, the character in the block cursor is accepted, and the cursor moves to the next position. • Press S left or right to move the flashing cursor to the left or right in a message. • The first character of every sentence is capitalized. While the first character is highlighted by the cursor, press S down to force the character to lowercase.
Note: This chart may not reflect the exact character set available on your phone. Using iTAP® Software Text Entry Method iTAP® software is a predictive text entry method that lets you enter a word using 1 keystroke per letter. Note: You can switch languages within a message in iTAP text mode. Press M > Entry Setup to select the language you want to use. Learning to Use Your Phone Entering Words Action 1 Press a number key 1 time to enter the first letter of the word.
For example, to spell the word “art,” press 2 7 8. The display shows: Create 643 Flashing cursor indicates insertion point. Press CANCEL (-) to cancel message. Ab Art Press S to scroll and see additional word choices. Art Apt Cpu Cru CANCEL LOCK } You may enter a word that the iTAP software does not recognize. If the word you want is not displayed: Action 1 Press C 1 or more times to delete letters until you see a letter combination that matches the start of the word.
Entering Punctuation Press 0 or 1 To enter punctuation or other characters as shown in the “Character Chart” on page 35 Using Capitalization Learning to Use Your Phone The first word of a sentence is automatically capitalized, with following words in lowercase.
Deleting Letters and Words Place the cursor to the right of the text you want to delete, and then do the following: Action Press C to delete 1 letter at a time. Hold C to delete the entire message. Using the Symbol Mode As an alternate way to enter symbol characters in a message, press M > Entry Mode from any text entry screen and select Symbol. See the “Symbol Chart” on page 39. 2 Press S, or press the number key multiple times, to highlight the symbol you want.

Learning to Use Your Phone Using the External Display When the flip is closed, the external display shows the time, date, and phone status information. It also displays messages to notify you of incoming calls and other events. See pages 27–29 for descriptions of the status indicators that may appear.
Locking Your Phone Manually Find the Feature Press 1 keypad keys 2 OK (+) M > Settings > Security > Phone Lock > Lock Now To enter your unlock code lock the phone Unlocking Your Phone Tip: Your phone’s unlock code is originally set to 1234 at the factory. Your service provider may reset this code before you receive your phone. Press 1 keypad keys 2 OK (+) To enter your unlock code unlock your phone Setting Your Phone to Lock Automatically You can set your phone to lock every time you turn it off.
Changing a Code or Password Your phone’s 4-digit unlock code is originally set to 1234, and the 6-digit security code is originally set to 000000 at the factory. Your service provider may reset these numbers before you receive your phone. If your service provider has not reset these numbers, we recommend that you change them to prevent other users from accessing your personal information. The unlock code must contain 4 digits, and the security code must contain 6 digits.
Setting Up Your Phone Storing Your Name and Phone Number 032380o To store or edit your name and phone number on your phone: Find the Feature M > Settings > Phone Status > My Tel. Number Defining the Time and Date Format You can define the format your phone uses to show the time and date on the home screen. M > Settings > Initial Setup > Time and Date Setting an Alert Style Your phone rings or vibrates to notify you of an incoming call or other event. This ring or vibration is called an alert.
The ring style indicator in the display shows the current alert style (see page 27). Flip Open To set an alert style using menu selections: Find the Feature M > Alert Styles > Style Press 1 S left or right 2 CHANGE (+) To scroll to the alert style select the ring style Each ring style contains settings for specific event alerts, ringer ID, and ringer and keypad volume. To change these settings, press M > Alert Styles > Style Detail.
Turning the Flip Tone On and Off You can set your phone to play several musical notes whenever you close the flip. Find the Feature M > Settings > Personalize > Flip Tone Setting Answer Options You can use different methods to answer an incoming call.
Press 3 S up or down To scroll to a picture/animation SELECT (+) S CHANGE (+) S Scroll to (None) to turn off the wallpaper image. select the image scroll to Layout adjust the image layout scroll to Center or Tile 4 5 6 7 Center places the image in the center of the display and, if necessary, shrinks the image to fill the display.
Tip: Turn off the screen saver to extend battery life. Adjusting the Backlight You can set the amount of time that the display and keypad backlights remain on, or turn off backlights to extend battery life. Find the Feature M > Settings > Initial Setup > Backlight Hiding or Showing Location Information Setting Up Your Phone 032380o 48 The automatic location information (ALI) feature tells the network where you are physically located. When ALI is set to Location On, your phone displays the + (ALI on) indicator.
To view or change the location transmission status of your phone during a call, press M > Settings > Location.
Calling Features For basic instructions on how to make and answer calls, see page 14. Changing the Active Line Calling Features 032380o Change the active phone line to make and receive calls from your other phone number. Find the Feature M > Settings > Phone Status > Active Line Redialing a Number If you hear an ordinary busy signal: Press 1 O 2 N To hang up redial the busy number Using Automatic Redial If the network is busy, you hear a fast busy signal, and your phone displays Call Failed.
You must turn on automatic redial to use the feature. To turn automatic redial on or off: Find the Feature M > Settings > Initial Setup > Auto Redial When automatic redial is turned off, you can manually activate the feature to redial a phone number. When you hear a fast busy signal and see Call Failed: Press N or RETRY (+) To activate automatic redial 032380o Calling line identification (caller ID) displays information about incoming calls in your phone’s external and internal displays.
Canceling an Incoming Call While the phone is ringing or vibrating: Press O or IGNORE (-) Calling Features 032380o To cancel the incoming call Depending on your phone settings and/or service subscription, the call may be forwarded to another number, or the caller may hear a busy signal. Turning Off a Call Alert You can turn off your phone’s incoming call alert before answering the call.

Returning an Unanswered Call Your phone keeps a record of your unanswered calls, and displays Missed Calls X, where X is the number of missed calls. Press 1 SELECT (+) 2 S 3 N To see the received calls list select a call to return make the call Your phone stores the most recent string of digits you entered in a temporary memory location called the notepad. This can be a phone number that you called, or a number that you entered but did not call.

Listening to Voicemail Messages Find the Feature M > Message Center > VoiceMail K The phone calls your voicemail phone number. If no voicemail number is stored, your phone prompts you to store one. Shortcut: Your service provider may also store your voicemail phone number as Contacts entry number 1. Contacts entry number 1 is empty by default.
