Messages Complete the message contents: You can send and receive text messages with your wireless phone. Text messages that you receive can contain ring tones that you can store on your phone. Option Msg Tip: Press M to select a text entry method. or Press INSERT (+) to select and insert a quick note message. Enter 1 or more phone numbers and/or email addresses. Setting Up the Message Inbox Messages You must set up your message inbox before you can send and receive messages.
Messages in the outbox are sorted from newest to oldest. The following indicators show message status: < = sending in progress > = sending failed i = delivered j = read by recipient Tip: To re-send an undelivered message, highlight the message and then press M > Re-send.
Press 3 SELECT (+) To select the option Your phone adds the ring tone to the My Tones list. For more information about using ring tones, see “Creating Ring Tones” on page 28 Messages Using Chat You can exchange text messages in real time with another wireless phone user in a chat session. The messages you send display immediately on your chat partner’s phone.
Ending a Chat Session Press 1 2 3 4 M S SELECT (+) YES (-) To open the Chat Menu scroll to End Chat select End Chat end the chat session A chat session also ends when you turn off your phone, answer an incoming call, or start a new chat session. If you exit the chat log without selecting End Chat, and your chat partner sends another message, your phone notifies you and adds it to the chat log. You can re-enter the session by returning to the chat log.
Setting Up Your Phonebook Phonebook Item Description Type entry type You can store names and phone numbers or email addresses in your phone’s electronic phonebook. To see the names in your phonebook, press M > Phonebook from the idle display. Scroll to a name and press VIEW (+) to view details of the phonebook entry as shown below. Voice Name Speed No. Ringer ID Shortcut: Press S down from the idle display to open the phonebook.
Press M > Insert 'n' To insert an n (number) character Your phone prompts you for a number before dialing the call. The number you enter is inserted into the dialing sequence in place of the n character. Note: You can store a maximum of 32 digits per number. Each character counts as 1 digit. Recording a Voice Name for a Phonebook Entry You can record a voice name for a new or existing phonebook entry. A voice name lets you call the phonebook entry using voice name dialing (see page 11).
To store a dialing sequence longer than 32 characters: Action 1 Create a phonebook entry to store the first part of the dialing sequence (for example, the number for your long-distance service provider). 2 Create a second phonebook entry to store the next part of the dialing sequence (for example, the country code and phone number for an international call). 3 Repeat step 2 as necessary to store the entire dialing sequence.
Checking Phonebook Capacity You can see how much memory remains for storing phonebook and datebook entries on your phone. Find the Feature Press 1 M 2 S 3 SELECT (+) M > Phonebook To open the Phonebook Menu scroll to Ph Book Capacity select Ph Book Capacity Your phone displays the phone memory meter.
Personalizing Your Phone Personalizing a Ring Style You can change the alerts that notify you of incoming calls, text messages, voicemail messages, data calls, alarms, and reminders. Any changes you make are saved to the current ring style. Find the Feature M > Ring Styles Setting Reminders A reminder is an alert that rings or vibrates at regular intervals to notify you about a voicemail or text message that you have received.
Setting the Menu Language Standard Shortcuts To set the language in which menu features and options are displayed: The following shortcuts are preprogrammed in your phone. You cannot edit or delete these shortcuts. Find the Feature M > More > Settings > Other Settings > Initial Setup > Language Setting Menu Scroll Behavior Task Zoom in/out on your phone display. Change your phone’s ringer alert setting. To set the highlight bar to stop or wrap around when you reach the top or bottom of a menu list.
Press 2 M To open the Shortcut Menu to perform the following options The Shortcut Menu can include the following options: Option New Edit Description Create a new shortcut. Edit the shortcut. Reorder List Tip: Use this option to delete the associated voice shortcut. Change the shortcut list order. Delete the shortcut. Delete all shortcuts. Delete Delete All Action 3 When prompted, say the phone number. If the phone recognizes the number, it dials that number.
To Adapt Advanced Voice Dialing to Your Voice Find the Feature M > More > Settings > Voice Setup Action Scroll to Adapt Digits. Press OK (+). Press Start +). When the phone prompts you to say the 1st digit sequence, wait for the beep and then repeat the digits in a normal tone of voice. 5 If the recording sounds acceptable (no mistakes or background noises), say “Yes” or press OK (+). 1 2 3 4 or If the recording is not acceptable, say “No.
Getting More Out of Your Phone Making a 3-Way Call During a call, you can call and connect a third party for a 3-way call. You cannot do this if you already have a call on hold. 1 2 3 4 Press keypad keys N N O To dial the third party’s number call the number connect the 2 calls end the entire call Getting More Out of Your Phone Restricting Calls You can stop all incoming and/or outgoing calls, or you can restrict outgoing calls to the numbers stored in your phonebook.
Return to Voice Mode To view a call timer: To return to normal voice mode, select Voice from the TTY Setup menu as described on page 18. M > Recent Calls Find the Feature > Call Times Using DTMF Tones You can send a number to the network as Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) tones during a call. Use DTMF tones to communicate with automated systems that require you to submit a PIN code or credit card number.
Using Hands Free Features You can purchase an optional Motorola Original™ hands free car kit, speakerphone, or headset for your phone. These accessories allow you to use your phone without using your hands. Power-Off Delay Note: The use of wireless devices and their accessories may be prohibited or restricted in certain areas. Always obey the laws and regulations on the use of these products.
Making a Cable Connection Adjusting Network Settings Installing the Software Your service provider registers your phone to its network. In some situations, such as using the phone as a modem or connecting it to a TTY device, you may need to change the network registration. To transfer data between your phone and computer, install the software included with the Motorola Original data kit. See the data kit’s user’s guide for more information.
After you successfully register on a new network, your phone remains on the network until you complete a call or turn off the phone, the signal strength falls below a specified level, or you register on a different network. When you leave a network, your phone automatically changes the network registration from New Network to Normal. Setting Service Tones You can set your phone to beep each time the network registration status changes.
Personal Organizer Features Datebook The datebook is a calendar that lets you schedule and organize events such as appointments and meetings. You can set the datebook to send a reminder alarm for specific events. Notes: • You must create an event to use the reminder alarm. • Your phone must be turned on for the reminder alarm to sound.

Making a Recording Voice Recorder Controls You can record a voice from the idle display or record a phone call in progress. Your phone plays an alert tone to notify the other party that the call is being recorded. Stop playback & go to Voice Record Menu. Note: Recording phone calls is subject to varying state and federal laws regarding privacy and recording of conversations. Stop playback & return to Voice Recorder list. Tip: Make your recording in a quiet location.
Press 4 SELECT (+) 5 YES (-) To select the highlighted option confirm the deletion or NO (+) cancel the deletion Notes: • You cannot delete a locked recording. Personal Organizer Features • You cannot recover a deleted recording.
Security Locking and Unlocking Applications You can lock specific phone applications (such as the phonebook) so that others must enter the unlock code to use them.
News and Entertainment Using the Micro-Browser The micro-browser lets you access Web pages and Web-based applications on your phone. Contact your service provider to set up access, if necessary.

Troubleshooting Check these questions first if you have problems with your phone. If you need additional help, contact the Motorola Customer Call Center at 1-800-331-6456 (United States) or 1-800-461-4575 (Canada). Troubleshooting Question Is your phone set up correctly? Is your battery charged? Do you see 6 in the display? Does the handset have a signal? Do you see 0 in the display? Is the earpiece volume too low? Is the other party unable to hear you? Answer Press M #.
Problem I cannot open my message inbox. How do I see the calls I sent or received? My phone will not send voicemail commands, passwords, or other codes. Solution Before you can use text messages, you must set up the message inbox (see page 6). To see the most recent calls you dialed or received: M > Recent Calls > Received Calls or Dialed Calls Your phone sends commands and passwords as DTMF tones. You can set your phone’s DTMF tones to be Long, Short, or Off.
