3. Select the USB device type by scanning the appropriate bar code from the Symbol DS9808 Product Reference
Guide.
4. On first installation when using Windows, the software prompts to select or install the Human Interface Device
driver. To install this driver, provided by Windows, click Next through all the choices and click Finished on the
last choice. The digital scanner powers up during this installation.
Connecting to an RS-232/SSI Interface
1. Connect the RS-232/SSI interface cable to the serial port on the host.
2. Connect the power supply adapter cable to the serial connector end of the interface cable.
3. Connect the other end of the power supply adapter cable to the power supply.
4. Plug the power supply into an AC outlet.

5. Select the RS-232 host type by scanning the appropriate bar code from the Symbol DS9808 Product
Reference Guide, or if using SSI scan the appropriate baud rate bar code from Baud Rate on page 4-3 that
matches the host’s baud rate setting.
