About This Guide This guide describes the basic features of your Motorola wireless phone. • It is normal for batteries to gradually wear down and require longer charging times. If you notice a change in your battery life, it is probably time to purchase a new battery.
GETTING STARTED Installing the Battery Charging the Battery Your phone is designed to use only Motorola Original batteries and accessories. New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before you can use your phone, install and charge the battery as described below. Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles. Note: The battery door unsnaps more easily if you push it to the left as you remove it. To charge the battery: 1. Step one: Release latch and remove back door.

Installing and Removing the Memory Card Removing the Memory Card You can install a removable memory card in your phone. This card provides additional storage for pictures, animations, sounds, and video clips. CAUTION: Do not remove the memory card while reading or writing files. Otherwise, it could be damaged. CAUTION: Do not bend or scratch your memory card. Avoid exposing your memory card to static electricity, water, or dirt.

Enjoy Your Stuff Pick Songs After you download or subscribe to items, go to MyStuff to play your music, videos, and games, and to run your applications. 1. Go to MyStuff. 1. Select Search. Using the Media Player After you select the songs you want to play, use the Media Player to control playback.
Organize Your Music MyStuff includes a built-in playlist called MyList. You can change MyList by adding, deleting, or moving songs on your phone. You can create and manage additional playlists on your computer and then copy them to your phone. 3. Select the category where you expect to find the video you want to play. 4. Select the title or subscription you want to play. 5. Press the Amp’d button to play the video. Use the Media Player to control video playback. To add a song to MyList: Play Games 1.
Change PhoneStuff Cancel a Subscription PhoneStuff is where you personalize your phone by setting its ringtone, wallpaper, and screen saver: You can cancel a subscription directly from your phone or by going to www.ampd.com. To cancel from your phone: 1. Go to MyStuff. 1. Go to MyStuff. 2. Select PhoneStuff. 3. Select the type of item you want to change. 4. Select the item you want to use. 5. Press the Amp’d button to preview the item. Tip: To stop a preview before it completes, press OK/ Back.

It’s like a pay-per-view movie from your cable or satellite TV service. If you want to use an item more than one, select the Download option instead. The active viewfinder image appears on your phone’s display. How do I edit playlists? You can edit only the built-in MyList playlist from your phone. Playing Video Clips You can send and receive video clips in multimedia messages. Press M> Media Gallery > Videos To play a video clip stored on your phone: 040035o 1. Sending a Multimedia Message A Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) message contains one or more slides with text and media objects (including photos, pictures, animations, sounds, voice memos, and/or video clips). You can send the multimedia message to other wireless phone users, and to email addresses. Press M> Messaging > Create Message > New PIX Message 1. Press keypad keys, then key to enter recipient’s phone number or email address.
Receiving a Multimedia Message When you receive a multimedia message or letter, your phone displays the É (message waiting) indicator and a New Message notification, and sounds an alert. Press READ key to open the message. Multimedia messages that you receive can contain different media objects: • Photos, pictures, and animations are displayed as you read the message. • A sound file, or video clip begins playing when its slide is displayed.

Choosing a Text Entry Method Using Capitalization Multiple text entry methods make it easy for you to enter names, numbers, and messages. The method you select remains active until you select another mode. Press 0 in any text entry screen to change text case.
Using Tap Method This is the standard method for entering text on your phone. Tap method cycles through the letters and numbers of the key you press. Entering Words In a text entry screen, you can press # to switch entry methods. An indicator shows which method is active (see page 30). 1. Press keypad keys (1 press per letter) to show possible letter combinations at the bottom of the display. 2. Press S left or right to highlight the combination you want. 3. Press Select key to lock a highlighted combination. You can press keypad keys to add more letters to the end of the combination. -orPress * to enter the highlighted combination when it spells a word.
Deleting Letters and Words Place the cursor to the right of the text you want to delete, then: 1. Press the C key to delete 1 letter at a time. 2. Hold the C key to delete all the text. Using the External Display When the flip is closed, you can use the external display for the following: • The memory card is recognized as removable memory when connected to a personal computer.
3. When the phone is completely powered on, press M. 4. Scroll to Phone Info and press the Select key. 5. Scroll to Storage Devices and press the Select key. 6. Scroll to Trans T-Flash and press the M key. 7. Scroll to Format and press the Select key. The phone displays Formatting will erase all data. 8. Press the Yes key to begin formatting the memory card. -orPress the No key to exit without formatting the card.
Locking and Unlocking Your Phone If You Forget a Code or Password You can lock your phone manually or set the phone to lock automatically whenever you turn it off. Your phone’s 4-digit unlock code is originally set to 1234, and the 6-digit security code is originally set to 000000. Your service provider may reset the unlock code to the last 4 digits of your phone number before you receive your phone. To use a locked phone, you must enter the unlock code.
SETTING UP YOUR PHONE 5 SETTING UP YOUR PHONE Storing Your Name and Phone Number Setting Answer Options To store or edit your name information on your phone, press M# from the home screen. You can use additional methods for answering calls: To view your phone number from the home screen or during a call, see page 7. Setting an Alert Style Your phone rings or vibrates to notify you of an incoming call or other event. This ring or vibration is called an alert.
8. Press Select key to confirm the layout setting. 9. Press Back key to save wallpaper settings. Tip: Set the resolution to the Low setting on your camera when taking pictures to be applied as wallpaper. Low resolution photos display best when applied as Fitto-Screen as wallpaper. 7. Press S to scroll to the inactivity interval that triggers the screen saver. 8. Press Select key to confirm the delay setting. 9. Press Back key to save the screen saver settings.
CALLING FEATURES 6 CALLING FEATURES For basic instructions on how to make and answer calls, see page 7. Changing the Active Line Change the active phone line to make and receive calls from your other phone number. Press M > Phone Info > Active Line. Redialing a Number 1. Press N to view the Recent Calls list. 2. Press S to scroll to the entry you want to call. 3. Press N to redial the number. Press either volume key to turn off the alert for a current incoming call.

Using the Notepad The most recent set of digits entered on the keypad are stored in your phone’s notepad memory. This can be a phone number that you called, or a number that you entered but did not call. To retrieve the number stored in the notepad: Press M > Recent Calls > Notepad.
Calling with 1-Touch Dial Using DTMF Tones To call Contacts entries 1 through 9, press and hold the single-digit speed dial number for 1 second. You can send numbers to the network as dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tones during a call. Use DTMF tones to communicate with automated systems that require you to submit a PIN code, password, or credit card number. Using Voicemail Voicemail messages that you receive are stored on the network.
PUSH-TO-TALK (PTT) CALLS 7 PUSH-TO-TALK (PTT) CALLS Push-to-Talk (PTT) lets you talk weakly-talkie style with other Push to Talk subscribers. PTT and the other features indicated are network and subscription dependent features that are not available in all areas. PTT connectivity requires PTT compatible phones. PTT Basics Once you are connected, just push and hold the PTT key I to communicate. Phone Position When using PTT, hold the phone in a vertical position, one to two inches (2.
Making a Private PTT Call 1. From the home screen, press I to open the Push to Talk menu, scroll to a contact or group, then press I. -orPress M > Amp’d PTT, scroll to a PTT contact, then press I 2. To speak during a PTT call, wait for the Ready to Speak tone, then press and hold I and begin speaking. Release I to let the other party speak. (Only one person can speak at a time.) If nobody speaks for 20 seconds, the call ends. 3. Press P to end the call.
In a group call, your phone displays PTT Group Call along with the name of the group. 1. Press and hold I. 2. When you hear the Ready to Speak tone, continue to hold I and begin speaking. Release I to let the other party speak. 3. Press P to end the call. If the other party ends the call, you do not have to do anything. If the PTT contact number is valid and the other party accepts your request to be added, you see Invite Status - (name) - Accepted.
Availability Indicators Icon Description Contact Available—The contact (or one member of the group) can accept calls. (green) Do Not Disturb—PTT calls cannot be made to the contact (or any member of the group). Saving, Editing, and Erasing PTT Groups You can create up to 30 PTT groups. A group can include up to 30 members. However, the total number of contacts you can save in your phone (including PTT and non-PTT contacts and groups) cannot exceed 99. Creating a PTT Group You can create a PTT group from a list of contacts in another group, or you can create a group from scratch by adding new contacts. Notes: 6. Editing a PTT Group Name You can edit the names only of groups you have created. Press I. 1. Scroll to the PTT group name you wish to change. 2. Press Options b. 3. Managing Multiple Calls Your phone can handle two calls at the same time. While you are on a standard wireless or PTT call, you can receive or place another standard wireless or PTT call at the same time. Personalizing Features Using Speech Commands You can place calls and perform other tasks by speaking commands to your phone. 1. Press and release the voice button on the right side of the phone.
