Support for SNMP version 3
• [Ref. #34226] iControl version 4.30 introduces support for SNMP version 3. SNMPv3 has as a
primary purpose the task of providing a secure environment for managing devices,
systems, and networks. Version 3 specifically protects against the following:
• Modification of information: Countering the in-transit altering of SNMP messages by
unauthorized SNMP entities.
• Masquerade: Blocking attempts to perform management operations by an
unauthorized party assuming the identity of an authorized party.
• Message stream modification: Preventing the malicious reordering, delay, or replay of
messages for the purposes of effecting unauthorized management operations.
• Disclosure: Protecting against eavesdropping on exchanges between SNMP engines.
In order to effect these security enhancements, when an Application Server is configured
in the role of SNMP agent, user profiles must be configured reflecting the three security
levels native to SNMPv3:
• No Authentication and No Privacy (
noAuthNoPriv)
• Authentication but no Privacy (
authNoPriv)
• Authentication and Privacy (
authPriv)
These security levels, when pegged to specific user profiles with user IDs and passwords,
serve as a security filter for SNMP exchanges. User profiles are defined on the SNMP agents.

• iControl now supports the Motorola DSR-6100 Integrated Receiver/Transcoder device.
