Chapter 16
Privacy
This feature prevents eavesdropping by unauthorized users on a channel by the use of a software-
based scrambling solution. The signaling and user identification portions of a transmission are clear.
Your radio must have privacy enabled on the channel to send a privacy-enabled transmission,
although this is not a requirement for receiving a transmission. While on a privacy-enabled channel, the
radio is still able to receive clear transmissions.
Some radio models may not offer Privacy feature, or may have different configuration. Contact your
dealer for more information.
NOTE:
Only one type of privacy can be assigned at a time.
This feature is not applicable in Citizens Band channels that are in the same frequency.
The following table describes the type of privacy and the settings that appear on your radio.

To unscramble privacy-enabled call or data transmission, your radio must be programmed to have the
same type of Privacy Key as the transmitting radio. If your radio receives a scrambled call that is of a
different Privacy Key, you hear a garbled transmission.
