Glossary
This glossary contains an alphabetical listing of terms and their definitions that are applicable to
portable and mobile subscriber radio products.
ACK
Acknowledgment of communication.
Active Channel
A channel that has traffic on it.
Analog Signal
An RF signal that has a continuous nature rather than a pulsed or discrete nature.
ARS
Automatic Registration Service
ASTRO 25
Motorola Solutions standard for wireless digital trunked communications.
ASTRO conventional
Motorola Solutions standard for wireless analog or digital conventional communications.
Autoscan
A feature that allows the radio to automatically scan the members of a scan list.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is an open wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances from fixed
and mobile devices with high levels of security.
Bluetooth Pairing

wireless connection.
Call Alert
Privately paging an individual by sending an audible tone.
Carrier Squelch
Feature that responds to the presence of an RF carrier by opening or unmuting (turning on) a receiver
audio circuit. A squelch circuit silences the radio when no signal is being received so that the user does
not have to listen to “noise.”
Central Controller
