Chapter 2 Using your J3500 Using the battery 51
To check the battery status from the battery itself
• Locate the battery gauge button and indicator lights on the back of the tablet. The
indicator lights show the remaining charge. Each light represents approximately 20% of
a full charge.
Note: If you push the battery gauge button and the top, middle, and bottom lights on
the battery illuminate simultaneously the battery has failed and must be replaced.

Charging the battery
When the J3500 is connected to AC power, the battery automatically charges until it
reaches full charge, even if you are using the tablet. While the battery is charging, the
battery status light flashes amber.
If two batteries are installed and the tablet is on, the tablet is designed to keep both
batteries nearly equally charged by staggering the charging sequence as follows:
1. The battery that the tablet was last using charges to 90%.
2. The other battery in the tablet charges to 100%.
3. The first battery charges from 90% to100%.
4. The battery in the docking station, if any, charges to 100%.
When the J3500 is off, in hibernate or sleep mode, the batteries are charged simultaneously.
If there is a battery in the docking station, it is charged at the same time as the batteries
installed in the tablet.
CAUTION: To avoid injury, keep the battery within the recommended temperature range
while it is charging. If the battery has been subjected to a hot environment, wait until it
cools to room temperature before recharging it. For more information, see the Safety and
Regulatory Guide included with the tablet PC.
