RECEIVE UPDATE
The RECEIVE UPDATE utility allows you to upgrade the Voyager XL Operating System. Updates are
available from our website (www.moogmusic.com) and are found in Minimoog Voyager ‘Software’ section.
Instruction for installing the software is provided with the les – please follow these instructions carefully!
When you select RECEIVE UPDATE from the Master Mode menu and
hit ENTER, the Voyager XL will display a message about deleting the
operating system as shown. This is rst step in the update. If you are
certain you wish to proceed, use the CURSOR to select ‘YES’ and press
ENTER. The LCD will briey display an ‘ERASING FLASH ROM’ message.
A new display will then appear, similar to the one shown at left. When
you see this screen, the Voyager XL has been enabled to receive the rst
operating system update le. Follow the instructions provided with the
update to send the correct les to the Voyager XL in the proper order. As
each le is sent, the Voyager XL will display a ‘SYSTEM EXCLUSIVE DATA
IN PROCESS’ message. Follow the instructions to send additional les
until the update process is complete. The new operating system does not
become active until all SysEx data transfers are conrmed as successful.
System Exclusive (SysEx) data transfers to/from the Voyager XL require:
- A computer with Internet access and a MIDI interface.
- MIDI Software capable of sending a generic Sysex bank le (.syx)
or Standard MIDI le (.mid)
Many software sequencers are capable of opening SysEx les and sending SysEx data. If
you do not own a sequencer, or if your sequencer doesn’t support SysEx data transfers, there
are MIDI utility software programs that will send and receive SysEx data les. For the PC,
try ‘MIDI-OX’, available online at www.midiox.com. For the Macintosh, try ‘SysEx Librarian’,
available at www.snoize.com.
You can also use Standard MIDI les to update the Voyager OS. Many sequencers will import
Standard MIDI le versions (.mid). If you decide to perform the update using Standard MIDI
les on a sequencer, however, be sure you understand fully the settings that may affect the
transmission of this type of data. It is beyond the scope of this manual to explain how to import
or open les containing System Exclusive data in the many different MIDI programs available
– it is your responsibility to know and be familiar with this aspect of the upgrade! If you have
questions about your software’s capabilities to send large SysEx messages in either le format
(.syx or .mid), contact your software vendor.
If you do not own a computer, special arrangements will need to be made for software
upgrades. Please contact techsupport@moogmusic.com for more information.
