A-4 Appendix A: MACHINE REFERENCE
SID
The Mono-synth SID is based on the synthe-
sis of the legendary SID chip, from the Com-
modore 64. The SID-chip was used in the
first Elektron synth, the SidStation.
SID 6581
The SID 6581 machine offers one oscillator
of high quality MOS 6581 synthesis, com-
plete with ringmod and sync. Just like the
original the oscillators are derived from an
extremely fast main counter, giving the crisp
highly recognisable sound.
PW - Pulse Width
PWAD - Pulse Width Add (sweep)
PWRS - Pulse Width sweep note-on ReStart
WAVE - Waveform
MOD - Modulation Select
MSRC - Modulation Source
MFRQ - Modulation Frequency
First select the basic waveform with the
Waveform (WAVE) parameter. The Wave-
forms available are:
TRI - TRIANGLE
SAW - SAW TOOTH
PULS - PULSE
MIX - MIXED
NOIS - NOISE
Waveforms differing to the standard defini-
tions are MIXED, which is a special digital
SID waveform, and NOISE, which gives dif-
ferent sound depending on the pitch it is
played with.
The Pulse Width (PW) controls the sound of
the PULSE waveform, and to some degree
also the MIXED waveform. The Pulse Width
Add (PWAD) and the Pulse Width ReStart
control the pulse sweep as described for
SuperWave Pulse.
The Modulation (MOD) parameter controls
the type of modulation to be used. The avail-
able selections are:
OFF - No modulation
RING - Ring Modulation
SYNC - Hard Sync
R+S - Ring Modulation and Hard Sync
All of the Modulations need a second fre-
quency for their operation. The Modulation
Source (MSRC) parameter controls from
where the second frequency is taken.
The first selection is MFRQ, which directs the
SID to take the modulation frequency from
the Modulation Frequency (MFRQ) param-
eter right next to it.
The second selection is PRCH. PRCH
stands for Previous Channel, which directs
the SID to look at the frequency played at the
track one index less than the one it is placed
on. So if MFRQ is set to PRCH for track 2 the
SID will take its modulation frequency from
the pitch played on track 1. This allows two
tracks to simultaneously influence the SID
sound.
