❺ Place the top cap onto the top of the steerer tube. Insert 
and tighten the top cap bolt until it is snug. Do not tighten 
completely at this time. Figure 3.17
❻  Loosen and remove the pinch clamp bolts holding the stem 
face plate on the front of the stem.
❼  Apply a bit of grease to the threads of the bolts before 
threading them back into the stem.
❽  Insert the handlebar into the stem. Note: use the rough 
area of the handlebar to help center them into the stem.
❾  Place the face plate over the handlebar.
❿  Begin threading the pinch bolts into the stem body. Tighten 
the pinch bolts in a cross paern. Do not overghten the 
bolts. As you ghten the bolts the gap between the face 
plate and the stem body should be the same all around.
⓫  Look from the side of the bike and check that the handlebar 
is parallel with the fork. Figure 3.18
⓬  Look down over the handle and stem and check that the 
stem is parallel with the re. Figure 3.19
⓭  Finish ghtening the pinch bolts and stem cap bolt.
