Failure to inspect and maintain heater may lead to improper combustion and a potentially dangerous
situation. A qualied technician should do the following once a year.
1. Check pilot ame. Flame should touch approximately 3/8" of the top of thermopile and touch top
of thermocouple. Figure 38 If not, contact dealer for service.
2. Turn switch to “OFF” position and gas shut off to off to turn gas off to heater. See step “To Turn
Off Gas”, Page 25. Allow heater to cool for 15 minutes. Remove decorative face (if installed) and
door glass. Page 36
3. Carefully remove log setor stones (if applicable). If logs or stones are severely deteriorated, replace.
Check logs or stones for sooting. A small amount of soot along bottom of either is normal. If exces-
sive sooting is found, heater must be adjusted. Contact dealer where you bought heater.
4. Remove rock wool or decorative glass. Clean burner and burner ports. Figure 48
5. Replace log set and rock wool or stones and glass according to instructions on Pages 18-21. Replace
glass door. Make sure gasket along perimeter of glass contacts face of rebox and forms an airtight
seal. Realign if airtight seal is not formed. Replace door glass and glass frame if damaged.
6. Inspect area around controls. Clean if necessary. Check gas control valve and all gas lines. If dam-
aged, do not use heater. Contact your dealer.
7. Start pilot and turn on main burner. Flames should be orange/yellow and not touch top of rebox.
If pilot or main burners do not burn correctly, contact your dealer for service. Monitor blower opera-
tion.
