Choose a geometric mosaic pattern with a straight edge,
like the MOHAWK® BRIGHTMORE MOROCCAN SKY,
and you may not have to rent a tile saw.
QUICK TIP
REQUIRED MATERIALS
CLEAN THE WALL
AND LET IT DRY.
If you have any grease buildup, use a heavy-duty
cleaner like TSP (trisodium phosphate) to remove it.
TAPE OFF THE AREA.
Use painters tape to mark the outside perimeters
and to protect any existing tile. Tape a drop cloth
over the countertop and cooktop.
DRY FIT THE WALL/MOSAIC TILE.
Take the measurement of the backsplash and tape off an
area on the oor nearby. You may choose to use a drop cloth
to prevent any damage to the oor. Lay down the tile so it
ts within the tape lines. Use a manual tile cutter or scissors
depending on your tile to cut them to the correct size.
GROUT THE TILE.
Using the grout oat, press the grout rmly into the
joints and wipe it away diagonally. Continue grouting
until all the joints are lled.
WAIT 24 HOURS BEFORE USE.
The grout needs to cure, so wait a day before
using the cooktop.
MEASURE AND MARK
THE BACKSPLASH.
For the best looking installation, nd the centerline and
measure out from there.
TIP: Center your backsplash on the main appliance,
not the centerline of the wall.
APPLY THE ADHESIVE TILE
MAT TO THE WALL.
Cut the mat to size. Remove the top half of the backing, and
line up the sheet with the bottom half. Then, working from
the middle, smoothly press the adhesive to the wall. Remove
the rest of the backing and apply it to the wall.
Apply each successive sheet, being careful to slightly
overlap each one, until you reach your other tape line. Use a
dry rubber oat the press the sheets rmly into the wall.
APPLY TILE TO THE WALL.
Remove the protective cover on the adhesive tile mat. Then,
starting at the bottom, carefully align the mosaic sheet and
lightly press it into the adhesive. Once it is in place, use the
dry rubber oat and rmly press the tile into the adhesive.
Repeat until all the tile is in place.
WAIT 10 MINUTES AND
WIPE OFF THE EXCESS GROUT.
After ten minutes, use a damp sponge to remove the excess
grout from the surface. Be sure to wipe at a 45 degree angle
so as not to remove the grout from the joints. Clean your
sponge frequently.
TIP: Wring out the sponge completely.
It should be barely damp.
REMOVE HAZE.
A haze may develop on the tile if you were unable to
remove all the grout from the surface. That’s no problem.
Simply wipe away using a regular glass cleaner, or you can
purchase a grout haze remover.
