RADIOFREQUENCYINTERFERENCE
RadioFrequencyInterference(RFI)isaphenomenonthatexistsinmodern
societyandisaprobleminmanyareasofelectronics.ForInverterusers,
RFInormallypresentsitselfintheformofstaticand/orinterferencewhen
listeningtoanAMradioandinunusualcasesmayinterferewithTVreception.
OvertheyearsLatronicshascontinuedtoinvestsignificanttimeandeffortinthe
reductionofRFIrelatedemissionsfromtheentireproductrange,sothatthey
complywiththeappropriateInternationaland/orAustralianStandards.
Evenwiththiscompliance,therearesituationswhereRFImaystillbeacausefor
concern,andcandiffergreatlyfrominstallationtoinstallation.Accordingly,the
followingisalistofrecommendationsmadetoassistintheoverallreductionof
RFI.
1. AvoidrunningDCandACcablesinthe
sameconduitsand/orcabletrenches.Itisstronglyrecommendedthat
DCandACwiringbeseparatedbythegreatestdistancepossible.In
extremecases,theuseofshieldedconduitmaybenecessary.
2. DCcablescanactasanaerial,therefore
allsuchcablesshouldbekeptasshortasispracticable.Forbest
performanceminimizeDCcablelengthtoInverterandBatteriesandif
possibleavoidtheuseofauxiliaryDCloads.
3. Forhouseholdinstallations,itisrecommendedthata
“good”EarthStakeislocatedasnearbytheInverterasispossible.
4. Thesetypesofradioequipmentinherentlysuffer
fromallformsofRFI,especiallywhenthereceivedsignallevelisweak.
Insuchcasesreceptioncansometimesbeimprovedbyrelocationof
theradioitself,alternativelytheuseofanappropriateexternalantenna
andco-axialcablemaybenecessary.Externalantennasshouldbe
locatedinamannerthatensuresmaximumsignalstrengthwhilstaffording
thegreatestpossibledistanceawayfromtheInverterandBatteries.
5. TVsignalsaretransmittedasFMwaveforms.Thistypeofsignal
fundamentallyreducestheeffectsofRFI,thereforetheuseofagood
antennaandfeedercableisnormallysufficienttoensurequalityreception.
LocatingthetelevisionasfaraspossiblefromtheInvertermayalsoimprove
pictureclarity.
6. Duetothelimitationsofthistypeofinstallation,the
bestresultsfortheminimizationofRFIareusuallyobtainedbymaximizing
thedistancebetweentheInverterandtheRadio/Television.
