Step 8.
After the VHDL source file is compiled, close the dialog box by selecting
Done
. Now start the
simulator by pulling down the
File
menu and selecting
Simulate
.
This brings up the Simulate a Design dialog box, where you select the library and the top-level
design unit to simulate. You can also select the simulation time resolution. But select
Cancel
for now.

Step 9.
Click on the
VSIM
button in the tool bar. This time select the entity named
counter
to be
simulated. When you select the entity name, the names of any associated architectures are
displayed in the scrollbox at the bottom of the dialog. The counter only has one architecture,
which is named only. Click
OK
to accept the settings.
The remaining Model
Sim
windows are now available for viewing within the original
application window.
Step 10.
Use the
View > All
menu sequence to open all of the Model
Sim
windows. If you are the first
person to use this tutorial, the windows will cascade. The windows may be in some other
