Digital Expansion Interface
This section describes the specifications of the Digital Expansion Interface (DEI) unit and the
modules that it supports—the Digital Endpoint Module (DEM-16) and the eight-port Single Line
Module (SLM-8).
DEI Unit
Physical dimensions of the DEI unit appear in Table 4-5.
A green power (PWR) LED on the front of the chassis indicates whether the DEI is plugged-in
to an active electrical circuit. Also, three sets of LEDs show the status of the three module bays.
The active status of each bay is shown by a green online (ON) LED and a yellow BUSY LED.
Three bays at the back of the chassis accept DEM-16 modules, and the following connection
interfaces are provided:
• The system power cord socket with built-in fuse holder (fuse is 250 V, 2 A). Power supply
requirements appear in “Power Supply” on page 4-7.
• Two DB-15 connectors. The 15-pin D-subminiature socket connectors provide electrical
interface to the Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server chassis and to either another DEI or an
optional, external Voice Processing Unit or Enterprise Messaging system.
• An earth ground lug.
