UPS Monitoring
For correct operation, the UPS Monitoring feature requires compatible hardware and software,
as described in the following sections. An expanded description of the UPS Monitoring feature
and for Flags associated with UPS Monitoring, refer to the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and
Programming Guide, part no. 580.8006. For information about hardware and software
specifications that apply to the UPS Monitoring feature, see page 4-9. For installation
instructions, see “Equipment to Support UPS Monitoring” on page 5-17.
Compatible UPS Units
Three commercial UPS units have passed UPS Monitor-compliance testing for use with the
Mitel 5000 platform.
Monitoring capabilities of the following UPS units were found compatible with the UPS
Monitoring feature:
• APC Smart-UPS
®
series (Universal Serial Bus [USB] connection)
• MGE Pulsar Evolution series (USB connection)
• ONEAC ON
®
Series
®
in advanced interface mode (To connect, you must use the USB
cable provided by the manufacturer.)
Compatible USB Hubs
Through Mitel product testing and validation, the hubs shown in Table 4-6 and Table 4-7 on
page 4-10 have been identified as compatible with the Mitel 5000 UPS Monitoring feature. The
tables are intended only to identify the USB hubs tested and verified to be compatible with UPS
Monitoring at the time of this publication.
Note that some USB hubs that are compatible with the Mitel CS-5200 and CS-5400 platforms
are not compatible with the CS-5600 platform.
NOTE
Consider the following facts about the compatible UPS units:
• Only monitoring capabilities were tested.
• Only connection across USB is supported.
• Other models/series available from APC, MGE, and ONEAC are not
supported.
• The best choice of a UPS for a particular system depends on environmental
factors and a balance between rated load and desired runtime. Consult Mitel
CommSource
®
to determine specifications and availability of a UPS suitable
for particular system requirements.
• If a USB hub is needed so that you can use more than one USB port function
at the same time, use only the USB hubs that have been tested and validated
as compatible with the UPS Monitoring feature. For more information about
compatible USB hubs, see page 4-9.
