Basic Voice Mail
With applicable licensing, Basic Voice Mail (BVM) provides four, eight, or 16 ports of voice
messaging on the Mitel CS-5200 and CS-5400 platforms and up to 16 ports on the CS-5600.
For comprehensive details about BVM, refer to the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide (part no. 580.8006).
Optional External Messaging Systems
Beginning with the v3.0 release, the Voice Processing Unit (VPU) is not supported on the Mitel
5000 system.
For increased capacity and additional functionality, you can replace BVM with a NuPoint
Messenger or an Enterprise Messaging (EM) system. NuPoint Messenger and EM systems can
be installed on any or all nodes in the network.
EM and NuPoint Messenger are optional, external systems that unify communication and
messaging by providing access to voice mail, fax, and e-mail messages in the user’s mailbox.
In addition, EM provides automatic speech recognition (ASR) capabilities and built-in UM
features. EM runs on the Windows Server
®
2003 operating system. For more detailed
information, refer to the Enterprise
®
Messaging Installation and Maintenance Manual, part
number 780.8006 and the NuPoint Messenger documentation located on the Mitel eDocs Web
site (edocs.mitel.com).
Both the EM and NuPoint Messenger systems allow a caller to leave (on a local system) a
message addressed to a mailbox located on a different system in the network. NuPoint
Messenger and EM each has its own internal message queue, similar to a mailbox message
queue, and stores messages until they can be delivered.
