Introduction
The Mitel CS-5200/5400/5600 is capable of connecting with other Mitel platforms and Inter-Tel
Axxess Advanced Communications Platforms to form a network that supports many call
processing features. This networking capability can be implemented using point-to-point T1/E1
PRI circuits, or it can be implemented using IP networking.
To the user, the network appears as though it is one integrated system. With few exceptions,
users can perform all of the functions across the network that they can perform within a stand-
alone telephone system.
In this appendix, all references to a “network” indicate two or more Mitel CS-5200/5400/5600
systems connected by a network span. Each system in a network is called a “node.” There can
be up to 63 nodes per network with a combined total of up to 40,000 devices on the nodes. See
the Specifications and Product Description chapters for additional information on capacities.
See Network IP Topology for information on network topology, including firewalls and NAT.
The system supports several private networking configurations. Between any two networked
systems, there can be any combination of T1/PRI or E1/PRI modules.
The Networking Wizard allows you to quickly configure the system for IP Networking or T1/E1
PRI Networking. For additional information, refer to the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and
Programming Guide (part no: 580.8006).
• T1/PRI or E1/PRI Connections: T1M or T1M-2 modules configured this way are used for
connecting system nodes in a network. Each network span requires two T1M or T1M-2
modules, one for each end of the span. See page A-6 for more details.
• IP Networking: DB Programming provides private networking using an IP network. See
page A-11 for more details. See the Specifications chapter for information on IP resource
capacities.
Figure A-1 illustrates an example of private networking using T1M or T1M-2 modules and IP
resources in the Mitel platform.
