Rationale for Stocking Spare Parts
Mitel is dedicated to providing and supporting the best possible service for all customers. As a
way of achieving this goal, Mitel recommends that its dealers and branches establish and
maintain an inventory of spare parts to minimize interruption of service to customers’ business
operations.
To minimize the effects of any service outage that a customer may experience, critical parts
should be kept as spares in dealer and branch inventory. However, because each customer’s
installation may be different, coming up with a meaningful list of spare parts that would apply to
all customers is not feasible. Mitel recommends that dealers and branches assess the critical
needs of their installed customer base.
Dealers and branches need to identify the parts that, in the event of system failure, would result
in a significant interruption of the customer’s business operations. Having been identified for
each customer’s needs, these critical parts could be considered a meaningful list of spare parts
to keep in inventory. The spare parts inventory should be adjusted in accordance with changes
that occur to the customer base or to the versions of items being maintained in inventory.
Customers may join or leave the installed base, or existing customers may modify their systems
or purchase new equipment. As well, changes to hardware, firmware, and software may affect
the currency or effectivity of the revision levels being maintained in the dealer or branch spare
parts inventory.
