Attaching an External Voice Processing System to the DEI
For integrated voice processing (voice mail, automated attendant, hunt group announcement
and overflow, optional Fax-On-Demand, buffered SMDR, Record-A-Call, etc.), an optional
external voice processing PC with special applications software can be attached to the system.
For additional voice processing information, refer to the Mitel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide, part number 580.8006.
Overview
An external voice processing PC is required for the Unified Messaging feature and to support
increased voice mail capacities. External voice processing is provided using Enterprise
®
Messaging (EM) or the Voice Processing Unit (VPU). EM and the VPU run Windows 2000. For
additional information about these external voice processing systems, including installation,
software installation, and upgrading, refer to the following documentation:
Enterprise
®
Messaging Installation Manual, part no. 780.8006 (also refer to the Addendum
to the Issue 1.1 Inter-Tel Enterprise Messaging Installation Manual For Version 1.2
Software, part number 780.8007, released in May 2008).
Voice Processing Unit Installation Manual, part no. 835.2890.
To attach a voice processing PC to the Mitel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server, continue to
“Procedure” on page 6-151.
NOTICE
Personal computer (PC) technology is continually evolving. As it does, the Mitel voice pro-
cessing systems will continue to incorporate important design enhancements. Depending
on the actual version of equipment that is shipped, the following installation instructions
could vary somewhat. If revised instructions are included with the equipment, see the new
information instead.
WARNING
Electric Shock Hazard. Use the LCD panel to shut down the system, then unplug the
power cord before connecting the external voice processing PC. The Mitel CS-5200/5400/
5600 Base Server power supply operates on 110 VAC and retains a charge after it has
been turned OFF. Failure to allow the high voltage to dissipate can cause bodily injury.
NOTE
When used with the Mitel CS-5200/5400/5600 system, the external voice processing
PC either can be plugged into an isolated, dedicated, properly grounded AC circuit
(through an UPS) or it can be plugged in to the UPS used for the Mitel CS-5200/
5400/5600 system.
