Programming an Eight-Port Single Line Module
With v2.1 and later, up to three eight-port single line modules (SLM-8) can be installed in a
Digital Expansion Interface (DEI) chassis, and up to eight single line endpoints may be
configured with each SLM-8.
You can program SLM-8 modules with the Configuration Wizard or directly in DB Programming.
Details about the Configuration Wizard process appear on page 6-93, and the direct process
appears in the following sections. For quick-reference to details while programming, refer to the
online Help.
SLM-8 Programming Overview
To activate and manage an SLM-8 module, perform the following procedures as needed.
If you do not use the Configuration Wizard to set up an SLM-8 module, carry out the procedures
in the following process in DB Programming. Step-by-step procedures appear in the “SLM-8
Programming Procedures,” next section.
1. Program an SLM-8 module in a DEI bay.
2. Set up one single line port with a system circuit number, as appropriate.
3. Set up multiple, or batch, single line ports with system circuit numbers, as appropriate.
4. Program individual endpoints in accordance with customer requirements.
Once an SLM-8 module has been installed and is in operation, the following procedures can be
used to make changes to, or remove, existing assignments. Procedures for the following tasks
also appear in the section titled “SLM-8 Programming Procedures” next:
• Change an endpoint circuit number.
• Remove a single line circuit number.
• Remove an SLM-8 module from system programming.
You can also configure the SLM-8 module with the Configuration Wizard. For further information
about this option, see “To configure the SLM-8 module:” on page 6-93.
SLM-8 Programming Procedures
The following procedures apply to the SLM-8 module.
To add an SLM-8 module to a DEI chassis:
1. Start the Inter-Tel 5000 Session Manager. The DB Studio window appears.
2. From the left pane of the DB Studio window, select System – Communication Server –
Digital Expansion Interface <DEI n>. Status of Bay 1, Bay 2, and Bay 3 appears in the
right pane.
3. Click an Uninstalled bay. A drop-down arrow appears in the box.
4. Click the arrow and select Single Line Module - 8 from the drop-down list. See Figure
6-24 ‘‘SLM-8 Option in a DEI Bay Drop-Down Box’’ on page 6-147.
5. Click anywhere in the right pane. A pop-up window appears asking if you’re sure you
want to make the change.
6. Click Yes.
