o T1/PRI: A T1/PRI span provides 23 information-bearing (B) channels and one data (D)
channel for signaling and control.
o E1/PRI: An E1/PRI span provides 30 B channels and one D channel.
IP Devices: The Mitel 5000 platform supports IP endpoints, digital endpoints, and IP
Single-Line Adapter (IP-SLA) devices. The Internet Protocol Resource Application (IPRA)
supplies IP functionality for the system and communicates to the endpoints and gateways
across 100Base-T Ethernet. The IPRA supports the Model 8601 Pocket PC SIP
softphone, which is described in the following paragraph, but does not support Inter-Tel
legacy IP SoftPhones. See page 7-8 for specific endpoint models.
Model 8602 Softphone Application: Model 8602 application software is distributed
separately from the system software. Performance and interoperability is equivalent to
hard IP endpoints. For details, refer to the Model 8602 User Guide, part number 835.3019.
Pocket PC SoftPhone: Model 8601 is a SIP softphone that runs on selected Pocket PC
2002 (or later) Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) platforms. For information about
installation and programming, refer to the Model 8601 Installation Manual, part number
835.2737.
IP Gateway Trunks: The Mitel 5000 platform supports Media Gateway Control Protocol
(MGCP) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) gateway trunks.
Multi-Protocol Endpoints: A multi-protocol endpoint operates either in Inter-Tel
Proprietary (ITP) protocol mode or in SIP mode. A SIP server is required for SIP mode
operation. Multi-protocol endpoints include Models 8600, 8620, 8622, 8662, and 8690.
Multi-protocol endpoints require software licenses.
Mini-DSS: The Mitel 5000 platform supports a Mini-DSS Unit that provides one-button
access to 16 extension numbers and/or feature buttons/resources. For details, see “Model
8416 Mini-Direct Station Select (Mini-DSS) Unit” on page 4-51.
Direct Station Select (DSS)/Busy Lamp Field (BLF): The Inter-Tel 5000 platform
supports two 60-button DSS/BLF Units and one 50-button model. For details, see “Direct
Station Select/Busy Lamp Field Units” on page 4-50.
Wireless Endpoints: Models 8664, 8665, and 8668 are wireless, compact IP phones that
operate in the ITP mode. For details, refer to the NetLink SVP Server and Model 8664/
8665/8668 Installation Manual, part number 935.4521, and/or to the Model 8664/8665/
8668 User Guide, part number 935.4522.online
Single Line Endpoints: In addition to the two circuits manufactured into the Inter-Tel CS-
5200/5400/5600 Base Server, single line endpoints can be installed with IP-SLA devices,
Single-Line Adapters, and four-port and eight-port Single Line Modules (SLM-4s and -8s).
NOTE
Mitel recommends provisioning each system with a display endpoint to allow
an administrator to program selected system data, act as the Attendant for
unsupervised CO recalls, receive system alarm messages, etc.
