Digital Capability
The addition of the DEI unit to the Mitel 5000 platform allows the installation of digital endpoints.
Customers may install digital or IP endpoints on the Mitel 5000 platform for optimum use of their
communication resources. All call processing functionality on the Mitel 5000 is available to both
digital and IP endpoints.
Digital Expansion Interface Unit
Each Digital Expansion Interface (DEI) unit and its associated hardware and software provides
digital capability. The status of whether a Mitel 5000 platform is Equipped or Not Equipped with
one or two DEIs appears on the Administrative Web Session (AWS).
Digital Endpoint Module
Each Digital Endpoint Module (DEM-16) provides 16 circuits for connecting Executive,
Professional, Standard, and Associate Display endpoints, Axxess and Eclipse Basic Digital
endpoints, Model 8500, 8520, and 8560 endpoints, or Single-Line Adapters (SLA) to the
system.
Each DEM-16 is also equipped with a single Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to provide the
following module and/or system resources:
Shared speakerphones for Axxess and Eclipse Basic, Standard and Associate Display,
and Models 8500, 8520, and 8560 endpoints. For information about shared
speakerphones, refer to the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide (part no.
580.8006).
Tone generating circuit for providing system tones (busy, reorder, Do-Not-Disturb, etc.)
to the endpoints connected to the module, if necessary. It is available in case there are no
voice channels available in the system to issue tones.
Switching matrix to allow access to any available time slot on the module’s PCM highway
(bus). This is provided since the module may need up to 32 simultaneous voice channel
connections.
