System Downgrades
You can downgrade a CS-5400 system without reinstalling a CS-5200 license. However, certain
features and capacities may appear to be available (because of the CS-5400 license), but they
are not because the physical hardware is not in place. For example, the last 88 VoIP resources
will not be available although they appear in DB programming, and the database in this state
will still show the processor expansion module (PEC) even though it is not physically there. If
you intend to load a CS-5200 license, please read the following notice before continuing with
the last step in the process.
The following list provides general process for downgrading a system:
Power down the system. For more information about system power requirements, refer to
the Installation chapter.
Remove the processor module, PM-1, from the back of the chassis.
Remove the processor expansion card, PEC-1, from the processor module.
Replace the single 7-pair jumper toward the edge of the module just beneath the Ethernet
port. Pins 1–14 will be covered by jumpers, pins 15–20 remain exposed.
Re-install the processor module.
Power up the system.
Start DB Programming and load a valid CS-5200 license—see page 6-56. This action will
default the database.
NOTE
For more information about removing the PEC or hardware installation issues,
refer to the Installation chapter.
NOTICE
System Downtime and Database Rebuild. Downgrading a system from a CS-
5400 to a CS-5200 and installing a CS-5200 license will default the database. If this
is necessary, then schedule to the downgrade at a time that will have the least
amount of impact to the customer. This additional downtime time may be required
to rebuild the database.
