System Setup for Programming
Use one of the following methods to program the system.
On-site programming with an attached PC.
Programming using a stand-alone PC over an IP connection.
Remote programming using a modem connection.
Each method is described separately in the following text. Only one programming session
should be in operation at a time.
For on-site, remote, or stand-alone programming, the computer must be an IBM AT-compatible
personal computer (PC). See “Programming Computer Requirements” on page 4-5 for
information.
Determine the System IP Address
To determine the IP address:
1. Use the LCD panel on the front of the Mitel CS-5200/5400 chassis to navigate to the
Network menu. Refer to the Installation chapter for more information about the LCD
panel.
2. Scroll down to IP Address.
By default, the system is programmed to use a DHCP server to obtain an IP address.
When powered up, the system tries to contact the DHCP server to obtain an IP address.
If this fails, you can use the LCD panel and controls to enter a static IP address.
3. Use the arrow keys to enter a static IP address if a DHCP server does not exist on the
LAN.
4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the System menu.
5. Scroll down to the Reboot menu option, then press the center control button to select,
then press again to acknowledge and reboot the system.
If necessary, you can also change the static IP address in DB Programming (if the
system came up using a DHCP server). You can then use the address you entered as
the IP address for the DB Programming session. Refer to the Mitel 5000 Features and
Programming Guide, part number 580.8006, for details.
IMPORTANT
Use static IP addresses. If using a DHCP server (and not using a static IP
address), the IP address may change, dropping any CT Gateway and/or
Voice Processing connections.
