Review and Update for Enabling a Voice Processor
Mitel 5000 platforms support any of the following voice processors: Basic Voice Mail (BVM),
Enterprise Messaging (EM), or NuPoint Messenger (NPM). And, for proper configuration, DB
Programming requires that the voice processor type is identified. After the EM is physically
connected, the system senses the voice processing type. Connection with a NP-UM is over IP.
As with previous versions, a voice processor connected to a Mitel 5000 platform auto-enables
when the system boots up. To avoid the risk of overwriting an established database with default
values, Mitel recommends connecting the voice processor first, then connecting with a remote
mode session of DB Programming, and then saving.
To save a voice processor database in remote mode:
1. Connect the PS-1, EM, or NP-UM equipment to the system in accordance with Mitel
installation instructions. Refer to the applicable installation manual.
2. In remote mode, launch Session Manager and start a DB Programming session.
3. Select the voice mail system to use.
4. From the DB Studio menu, select Operations – Database Operations – Database Save.
Identify the location where you want to store the system database, then select Save
Voice Data to: box and identify the location where you want to save the voice processor
database.
5. Click Start. System and voice processor databases are saved to the locations indicated.
Figure 5-68 on page 5-197 shows how an external voice processing system connects to the
Mitel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server. An 8.5 ft (2.5 m) cable is available (part number
813.1806). Or, if necessary, contact the Mitel CommSource division for information on
purchasing longer cable lengths.
Select None if using
NuPoint Messenger
as the voice mail system.
