Introduction
This manual provides the information needed to plan, install, perform initial programming,
implement, and maintain any of three configurations of the Mitel
®
5000 advanced
communications platform—the CS-5200, the CS-5400, and the CS-5600.
To implement the equipment and features described in this manual requires:
An adequate capacity compact flash-type memory card containing the applicable software
release, applications, and voice mail prompts.
A Universal Serial Bus (USB) security key to verify licensing. See page 3-13.
New Manual
This Mitel 5000 Installation and Maintenance Manual (part number 835.5000) provides
information for new installations, upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting relating to
installation for release v2.4. For prior releases, refer to the documentation for that release.
All other information is now in the new Mitel 5000 Features and Programming Guide (part
number 580.8006), and the Mitel 5000 Reference Manual (part number 580.8007). Both new
manuals cover all features, programming, diagnostics and troubleshooting, and any other
information other than installation-related. You can also find all documentation on the Mitel
edGE Online Manuals and Guides (www.inter-tel.com/techpublications) Web site.
Intended Audience
This manual has been developed for Mitel-trained technicians who:
Possess the knowledge and skill required to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot a
programmable circuit-switched telephone system.
Use standardized telecommunication practices, procedures, and troubleshooting methods
when performing their work.
Possess the ability to effectively apply the principles of:
o Internet Protocol (IP) telephony/computer telephony (CT).
o Voice over IP (VoIP), including Quality of Service (QoS).
o Data networking.
o Technology convergence.
NOTICE
To receive technical assistance from the Mitel Technical Support group, you must have
the following certifications:
Mitel 5000 Basic Technical Certification.
Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Convergence Technologies Professional
(CTP) certification.
If you do not have these certifications, Mitel Technical Support will provide assistance, but
one Technical Support Incident (TSI) will be charged.
