To convert a Mitel CS-5400 system to a Mitel CS-5600, you must first upgrade the software,
then configure the system settings. The conversion process requires that you perform the
following procedures.

2. Associate the Base Server with the PS-1on the LAN.
3. Configure the PS-1 on the LAN.
4. Configure the Base Server in DB Programming.
5. Reload system and voice mail databases.
6. Verify that external clients point to the PS-1 rather than the Base Server.
To prepare the Mitel CS-5400 for the conversion and upgrade:
1. Back up the system and voice mail databases. Refer to the Mitel 5000 Features and
Programming Guide, part number 580.8006, for the detailed procedure.

procedure, see “Upgrading System Software to Version 3.0” on page 5-148.
5. While the system is rebooting as a result of the upgrade, remove the USB security key
from the Mitel CS-5400 chassis and insert it into a USB 2.0 port on the front or back of
the PS-1. See Figure 5-28 on page 5-58 and Figure 5-29 on page 5-58. Connected to
the PS-1, the Mitel CS-5400 platform is called the Mitel CS-5600 Base Server.
NOTE
The Mitel CS-5400 is referred to as the Base Server when it is incorporated into a
Mitel CS-5600 configuration.
NOTE
Partial Voice Processor saves are not permitted when upgrading to v2.0 or
later.
