Downgrading DEI Chassis
To downgrade DEI chassis:
To connect a DEI that has v3.0 firmware to a pre-v3.0 Mitel 5000 system, the system
must downgrade the DEI firmware during installation. Do not connect more than one DEI
to the pre-v3.0 Mitel 5000 system at a time. Follow the procedure “Installing/Upgrading
the DEI Chassis” on page 165.

Scenario Cause Resolution
DEI is going offline Check the Admin Session Web
page log:
romd_out_dei.log.
If you see multiple messages,
such as “MP present,” this is an
indication the DEI link is not
stable.
Make sure cables are
firmly attached.
Try a different DEI cable.
Connect one DEI only. Do
this for all DEIs. This will
help to isolate the faulty
device.
Make sure the system is
grounded properly.
After upgrading to v3.0, the
system cannot
communicate with one or
more DEI(s).
The DEI low-level firmware was
not upgraded correctly.
Upgrade one DEI at a time as
described in the previous
pages. Check the Admin
Session Web page log
romd_out_dei.log for
successful upgrade information.
After upgrading to v3.0, the
system cannot
communicate with the third
and/or fourth DEI(s).
Incorrect license. Obtain a valid v3.0 license with
the appropriate number of
DEIs.
One or more DEI(s) have over
allocated voice channels.
Redistribute devices among the
DEIs to avoid voice channel
over allocation. Disable
features such as OHVA, dual-
SLAs, or MDPMs to reduce the
required voice channels on a
DEI.
The system is set to 2-DEI
mode.
Change the DEI Mode setting
in DB Programming to 4-DEI
mode.
The system is showing “Out
of Voice Channels” alarm.
A call on a DEI failed because
of timeslot/voice channel over
allocation.
Move devices to other DEIs to
eliminate the timeslot over
allocation.
