Considerations
Upgrading requires the following considerations. Refer to the main installation manual for any
upgrading information not discussed in this document.
Network Environment Requirements: For details, refer to the main installation manual.
Upgrade Options: Upgrading to Mitel 5000 v3.0 can involve several combinations of
hardware and software. For detailed discussion of possible scenarios and required
procedures, refer to the main installation manual. In this document, first upgrade to v3.0
before adding additional optional hardware such as DEIs, new voice mail, or other
hardware.
Upgrade Licensing: A USB security key holds the Mitel 5000 serial number for a system
being upgraded. Licensing is uploaded from DB Programming. The license must match
the serial number on the key or the upload will fail. For details of software license
management, refer to the main installation manual. The upgrade process to v3.0 (page 5-
106) includes information on upgrading the license.
For Mitel CS-5200 and CS-5400 systems, the security key is inserted in the USB-B port on
the front of the Base Server. Refer to the main installation manual for details and
illustrations. For the Mitel CS-5600, four USB ports on the back of the PS-1 accept the
system security key. Refer to the main installation manual for an illustration. In the CS-
5600 configuration, the Base Server does not need a security key.
For programming procedures for features introduced with v3.0, see the Features and
Programming Guide (part number 580.8006). Features are described along with any
programming and troubleshooting information.
Install v3.0 Software
This procedure details the upgrade only. Perform the upgrade first before installing and
attempting to bring up the voice mail or DEI hardware.
To upgrade the system to version v3.0:
1. Check that you have done the following:
The system is at version 2.x. If not at version 2.x, refer to the main installation
manual for information necessary to get to this version.
Use only Internet Explorer (IE) v6.x or IE v7.x. This procedure has not been tested
with other browsers.
NOTICE
The Mitel 5000 v3.0 release requires a minimum 512MB compact flash-type memory card. If
this system is currently using a 256MB compact flash-type memory card, upgrade the card to
either 512MB (part number 841.0274) or 1024MB (part number 841.0273) before upgrading
the system to v3.0.
IMPORTANT
Space Limitations:
If installing voice prompts, keep in mind space limitations on
the compact flash-type memory card. If you no longer want
a particular language prompt package, remove it and install
the desired language prompt package.
When downloading the files, the system checks to make
sure there is enough available space on the compact flash-
type memory card to upgrade all components. If there is not
enough space to complete the upgrade for all packages, a
dialog box appears warning you there is not enough space
and the upgrade process is stopped. Delete unused voice
mail messages to free up space, and then restart the
system upgrade.
