Upgrade Assumptions
The processes and applicable procedures detailed in this section assume that:
• You are upgrading a system running v1.2 or later. Systems running v1.2 must first upgrade
to v2.0, which requires a chargeable license. For sites running v.1.1 and earlier, contact
Mitel Technical Support for direction.
• The compact flash-type Mitel 5000 memory card remains the same throughout the
upgrade process. Mitel 5000 memory cards are available with system software in two
capacities: 512 MB and 1024 MB. For ordering details, see “Replacement Parts” on
page 7-2.
Onboard TFTP Server
In a Mitel CS-5600 configuration, the TFTP server resides in the Base Server. The onboard
TFTP server is not intended for uses other than TFTP endpoint firmware downloads.
The TFTP server:
• is not used to upgrade any other Mitel 5000 software.
• does not support Mitel endpoint models 5212/5224 at remote locations/teleworker.
• supports local and remote downloads. Port 69 must be open on the corporate firewall for
endpoints at remote locations.
• might have issues with some SOHO routers because some of these routers do not provide
using custom DHCP options.
• uses ports 69 and 20001 for all transfers to save on socket resources. The server
responds on the same port, 69 or 20001, to which the client request is sent. Port 69 must
be open on the corporate firewall for endpoints at remote locations (Mitel models 5212/
5224 are not supported for teleworker/remote location use). If left at 0, the system will try
port 20001 followed by port 69.
See Table 5-22 on page 5-150 for information on TFTP, DHCP and other information relevant to
Mitel and Inter-Tel IP endpoints.
NOTICE
The Mitel 5000 v3.0 release requires a minimum 512MB compact flash-type memory
card. If this system is currently using a 256MB compact flash-type memory card,
upgrade the card to either 512MB (part number 841.0274) or 1024MB (part number
841.0273) before upgrading the system to v3.0.
If replacing the Mitel 5000 compact flash-type memory card in addition to upgrading the
software, install the new card in accordance with the Mitel 5000 Memory Card
Replacement Instructions, part number 835.3033.
You must not remove the memory card while the system is up and running or if power
is otherwise supplied to the chassis. Doing so may damage the memory card and the
system data on it.
