Updated Manual Information
Throughout this manual, “change bars” like the one next to this paragraph have been placed in
the margins. This indicates information is new or has been revised since the previous
publication of the Mitel 5000 Installation and Maintenance Manual, Issue 2.4, September 2007.
NuPoint Messenger External Voice Mail System
Prior to v3.0, the Mitel 5000 supports BVM, the internal voice mail option, and EM, an external
voice mail system. Mitel 5000 software version v3.0 introduces the Mitel NuPoint Messenger,
another external voice messaging system. The NuPoint Messenger uses SIP to communicate
with the Mitel 5000. Although you can still equip BVM or EM, you can only assign one mailbox
on one messaging system.
For additional information on NuPoint Messenger, refer to the following documents:
Mitel 5000 Features and Programming Guide, part number 580.8001.
Mitel 5000 and NuPoint Messenger Integration Guide, part number 580.8008.
NOTICE
The Voice Processing Unit (VPU): The VPU is no longer supported in v3.0. The VPU was
discontinued in May 2007. Mitel recommends that current VPU installations upgrade to
Enterprise
®
Messaging (EM) or NuPoint Messenger (the new external voice mail system. See
page 1-2). The two EM hardware platforms currently available, Base I and Base II, are
separate system components and must be purchased from your local provider. Instructions for
converting a VPU database to an EM database are included in the Enterprise Messaging
Installation and Maintenance Manual, part number 780.8006. Contact your local provider for
more information.
NOTE
The Mitel 5000 system has been rebranded as the Mitel 5000 system. Over time,
most or all of the supporting materials related to this product line will be rebranded
to reflect this name change.
