To install the processor expansion card:
1. Perform a Database backup using DB Programming. You can also back up the database
using the LCD panel. For details, refer to the Mitel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide, part number 580.8006.
2. Perform a voice mail backup using a USB flash drive attached to the USB-A port on the
front of the Mitel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server. Do not back up VM to the compact
flash-type memory card. Refer to the Mitel 5000 Features and Programming Guide, part
number 580.8006, for details on backup up either Basic Voice Mail or external voice
mail.
3. Shut down the system using the LCD panel. See Figure 5-14 on page 5-34 for an
illustration of the menu locations. Unplug the chassis power cord.
4. Wearing a properly terminated anti-static wrist strap, loosen the fastener at the top of the
processor module. Remove the PM-1 from the chassis and place it on a clean, ESD-
protective, surface.
5. Using Figure 5-19 on page 5-45 as a guide, do the following:
a. On the processor module, remove the strap across the first seven pins on the mount
point closest to the front of the chassis. Do not discard the strap. Please read the
important message below.
b. Check that the SDRAM memory is correctly seated. Visually inspect to make sure
the module is pushed in and the gold “fingers” are not exposed.
NOTICE
System Inoperability. The strap covers pins 1 through 7 (Figure 5-19). If using the
expansion card, remove the strap. If the system ever needs to function without the
expansion card (for example, replacing the expansion card), you will need to be put
the strap back on the processor module. The standard processor module (Mitel CS-
5200) will not function without the strap in place.
NOTICE
Equipment Damage Hazard. Use the LCD panel to shut down the system, and
unplug all power sources to the chassis before working with the processor module
(PM-1). Replacing or inserting a processor module with AC power turned on to the
chassis will damage the processor module. A processor module damaged in this
manner will not be replaced under warranty.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). The modules and components are static-sensitive.
When working with the modules, use a properly terminated anti-static wrist strap. Any
static charge (no matter how small) must be discharged from the body before
touching the modules or other components. The warranty for this equipment does not
cover damage caused by static or mishandling. Modules or components damaged in
such a manner will not be replaced.
IMPORTANT
The pin strap on the front expansion card mount point must be
removed before installing the PEC. Also, if the PEC is removed
and/or the processor module returned, the strap MUST be in
place on the first seven pairs of pins, or the processor module will
not function.
