Flash Memory and Low-Level Firmware Update Messages
For v3.0, new LCD messages, designed to safeguard low-level firmware updates, have been
added to the LCD application.
This update is required when you:
perform the initial configuration of the system.
install a new compact flash-type memory card.
swap a processor module.
perform a system upgrade.
During this update, it is critical that the server remain up and running while the updates are
being completed. Do not power off the server during an update. If any of the updates are
missing or become corrupted, the server will not operate and must be returned to Mitel.
Flash Memory Updates
The Mitel 5000 server processor modules have 4 MB of flash memory. When you first power up
the server, the system software detects if any flash memory components require an update. If
an update is required, the following message appears on the LCD:
“Upgrade Norflash enter any key.”
Press any button next to the LCD panel to acknowledge the message, and start the update.
During the update process, the following messages alternately appear on the LCD:
“Upgrading......<NOR flash component>.”
“Do not power off.”
Each component can take several seconds to update. Do not shut down, reboot, or power
down the server during the update process.
After the components are updated, the system automatically reboots.
CAUTION
Potential system failure. Do not shut down, reboot, or remove power from the server while
the components are being updated. Shutting down, rebooting, or removing power from the
server before the update is complete will render the server inoperable and you will need to
return the server to Mitel.
NOTE
When you perform a system upgrade using the AWS Web pages, flash memory
updates are completed automatically.
