INSTALLATION PLANNING
This section provides procedures for planning the installation of new Mitel CS-5200, CS-5400,
and CS-5600 systems. If upgrading a system, see “System Upgrades” on page 5-142.
Network Installation Concerns
To install a network, you will need to acquire the following components:
• Software License: Software features, including networking, are controlled by a software
license. The license uploaded to the system must have the appropriate networking
feature.
• T1 or E1 Service: For each network span, order a clear channel, point-to-point T1 or E1/
PRI span from the service provider (not PRI service, even though you will be using T1M or
T1M-2 modules set up for T1 or E1/PRI). If you intend to configure the T1/E1 module for
PRI use, you must have the PRI software feature license, part number 840.0227.
• T1M or T1M-2 Modules: For a private network installation, each network span requires
two T1M or T1M-2 modules, part number 580.2700 or part number 580.2702: one for each
end of the span.
• Processor Module (PM-1): The PM-1, part number 580.2000, is the primary circuit board
that holds the system processor and other essential components. It is built-in to the Mitel
CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server chassis. The Mitel CS-5400 system is made by installing
a Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1), part number 580.2020, on top of the PM-1. See the
procedure, “Installing a Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1)” on page 5-43.
You can create a private network through IP resource programming—Refer to the Mitel 5000
Features and Programming Guide, part number 580.8006. Installation recommendations
include the following:
• Each node must have at least one central office (CO) [local exchange] trunk. Emergency
calls must be programmed to use the local trunk.
• All nodes should have access to the node where an optional external voice processing
system is located, with a minimum number of hops through other nodes. This will have a
significant impact on the network layout. The network does not allow one node to use
resources from another node (for example DSP resources) with the exception of external
page ports.
NOTICE
With regard to IP Addresses, subnet mask, and gateways, the CT Gateway must be on
the same LAN as the Mitel platform IP address and subnet mask, or the system will not
work.
