Phones and Voice Applications

Use of Record-a-Call with NuPoint UM requires that the phone type is changed from 5020 to
5240 for both NuPoint UM and SAA (if used). Changing the phone type to 5240 invokes the
MiVoice Business Web Service which requires an addition external IP connection, as well as
an additional internal system MiTAI socket and additional MiTAI monitors for each port, i.e. it
is monitored twice, once via the two different connections. Although running on the same server
as NuPoint UM, the SAA requires additional connections to MiTAI and the Web Service.
A connection from an external device, or application, to an internal service may be described
as both an IP connection and also a socket to a service, for example, a MiNET connection is
both a MiNET socket and also an IP connection. Other IP connections to other services may
exist which will also consume sockets that are not part of MiNET, MiTAI or SAC, but which will
nonetheless increase the overall socket count, for example a connection to the Web server, or
Visual Voice Mail from MiVoice Business to NuPoint. Connections between internal services
may consume sockets, but may not require an external IP connection, for example the
connection between the SAC service and the MiTAI/HCI function.
Note that although the table above gives a good view of what services are consuming sockets,
MiVoice Business also uses sockets for internal working. A good rule of thumb would be to add

Note: Unified Communicator Mobile requires one virtual IP set in the server for each real set that is twinned with
an external number, to act as a monitor. Approximately one virtual set for each three real sets is required as a call
agent to dial the external numbers, and one virtual set for each ten real sets is needed for user access to program
features. To calculate the number of total IP sets required, round each of these calculations up to the next whole
digit. MiTAI monitors are required for the real user set and all virtual sets, and again the number is rounded up to
the next whole digit. The maximum number of port that can be twinned using Unified Communicator Mobile requires
the number of virtual sets shown in brackets.
