Connecting to the Internet through
an existing LAN
You can connect to the Internet through an existing LAN
by using the WAN port or a layer-2 switch (Net 3) port.
Only qualified network engineers should install the
3100 ICP system into an existing LAN.
The 3100 ICP must be physically connected to the
existing network with the correct type of cable before you
begin either of the following procedures.
Through the WAN port
This configuration allows you to connect the 3100 ICP
through the WAN port to a layer-2 switch that is
connected to a router that is directly connected to the
Internet.
Before you begin this procedure, obtain the following
information from the network administrator
- an unused static IP address from the existing LAN
subnet for the WAN port
- DNS addresses
- subnet mask
- default gateway IP address (router connected to
the internet).
