HeavyWeight
No Hub Couplings
Installation Guidelines
These suggestions provide guidelines for the use of the M
Mission HeavyWeight No Hub Coupling
for
joining No Hub® pipe and fittings in accordance with accepted industry standards and practices.
All construction projects involve many variables. Governing codes, engineering criteria, and the
conventions of the plumbing trade, necessitate that judgment decisions must be a combination of
design and “on the job” considerations. The following suggestions for joining No Hub® pipe and
fittings with the Mission HeavyWeight No Hub Coupling are not definitive, but it is hoped that they
will be helpful. Supplementary information about the No Hub® system can be obtained from the
Cast Iron Soil Pipe Industry reference publication “Spec. 301-90”, which can be obtained from the
manufacturers of No Hub® and Fittings.
1. In order to provide a sound joint with field cut lengths of pipe, the ends
should be cut square. Place the Neoprene gasket on the end of one pipe
and the stainless steel clamp assembly on the end of the other pipe or fit-
ting to be joined.
2. Firmly seat both ends of the pipe/fittings against the integrally molded
shoulder in the center of the gasket.
3. Slide the clamp assembly into position centered over the gasket. At this
point, it is recommended to take the “slack” out of each sealing band by
pre-tightening the clamps and the wrench to “hand tight”. Final tightening
is described below.
4. M
Mission HeavyWeight coupling sizes 1½”, 2”, 3” and 4”
are 3 inches wide
and have 4 sealing bands.
A. First, tighten the inner bands
(a)
alternately and firmly to 80 inch
pounds.
B. Next, tighten the outer bands
(b)
alternately and firmly to 80 inch
pounds.
5. M
Mission HeavyWeight coupling sizes 5”,6”, 8”and 10”
are 4 inches wide,
,
while
12” and 15”
are 5½ inches wide. All aforementioned coupling sizes
have 6 sealing bands.
A. Start by tightening the innermost bands
(a)
alternately and firmly to
80 inch pounds.
B. When this is completed, move outward to the next set of bands
(b)
and tighten alternately and firmly to 80 inch pounds.
C. Finally, tighten the outermost bands
(c)
alternately and firmly to 80
inch pounds.
The M
Mission HeavyWeight Coupling
is designed to be installed by using a properly calibrated
torque wrench pre-set at 80 inch pounds. The standard 5/16” hex screw head will accommodate
the same tightening tool used on 2 band couplings.

use of Seekonk 80” lb. torque wrench on large size couplings.
