Task 8: Installing Set-Top Boxes
A number of set-top boxes will typically be controlled from cycler services on the Application
Server via an EdgeVision unit or GC-100 network adapters. If your system includes an Allégro
streaming encoder/server (or a streaming EdgeVision), then one set-top box will be manually
controlled, either from the associated remote control unit, or from the soft remote in the
Application Browser area of the iControl Edge’s Web site.
Connecting a GC-100 Network Adapter to a Cycling Set-Top Box
To connect a GC-100 network adapter to a cycling set-top box
Plug one end of an IR emitter cable to an IR output on the GC-100, and position the other
end against the IR receiver on the set-top box front panel.
Connecting a Set-Top Box to an HCP-1801
To connect a set-top box to an HCP-1801 video control probe with embedded
audio
If using an HCP-1801 video control probe with embedded audio, then you need to insert an
ADC-800 CAM converter between the set-top box and the HCP-1801 probe (refer to the
documentation that shipped with these devices).
Connecting a Set-Top Box to a Pair of Densité Probes
To connect a set-top box to a pair of Densité probes
1. Using appropriate cables, connect the composite video output on your set-top box to a
BNC input at the back of the appropriate video probe in your Densité frame (refer to the
documentation for your specific set-top box model and Densité probe).
Note: You may want to shield the link between the IR emitter cable and the
IR receiver on the set-top box by using protective adhesive tape (e.g. duct tape), to
prevent adjacent set-top boxes from picking up IR commands that are not targeted
at them.
