7 Getting Connected
This chapter tells you how you can get your Pocket PC connected to your
desktop computer, to an IR device and to the Internet or corporate network. It
also describes two applications on your Pocket PC: ActiveSync (for data
synchronization) and Internet Explorer (for Web browsing).
7.1 Connection Options
To take full advantage of your Pocket PC, you will want to get connected. You
have the following connection options with your Pocket PC:
Connect to your desktop computer to synchronize information with another
computer. (For details, see section 7.2.)
Use the IR port on your Pocket PC to send and receive files between two
devices. (For details, see section 7.3.)
Connect to the Internet or a corporate network to browse the Internet or
intranet and send and receive e-mail messages. (For details, see section 7.4.)
7.2 Connecting to Your Desktop Computer

CAUTION: Do not shut down or restart your desktop computer while your Pocket PC is
connected. Turn off your Pocket PC or disconnect the cable before you shut down your
desktop computer.
You can connect your Pocket PC to a desktop computer in several ways:
Use the USB cradle or ActiveSync cable (available as an optional
accessory) (See step 8 of section 1.4 for information.)
