This chapter describes how to connect your printer to a PC and how
to install a printer driver.

1 Turn off both the printer and the PC.
2 If you will be printing via the serial port, install an optional
serial interface. See chapter 3, “Interfaces and Daughter-
boards,” in the
Options
manual for instructions.
3 Connect the printer to the PC.
If you’re connecting to a PC through a parallel interface, refer
to “Making a Parallel Connection” on page 3-3.
If you’re connecting to a PC through an optional serial
interface, refer to chapter 3, “Interfaces and Daughterboards,”
in the
Options
manual for installation and connection
instructions.
If you’re connecting to a PC through an Ethernet network,
refer to chapter 4, “Connecting to an Ethernet Network,” of
this manual.
»Note:
If the printer is more than 6.5 feet (2 meters) from the PC,
we recommend using a serial connection for better
communication.
4 Turn on both the printer and the PC.
5 Install a printer driver.
