The
Harmon
Rocket is
basically
a heavily
modified
RV-4. But
modified
hardly does it
justice. The real
Rocket is a homebuilt
aircraft designed to look and fly fast!!
Black Horse have created their version to
be as close to the original as possible but
with minor changes to make it even more
practical as a model. The unique factory
jigging procedure ensures that each and every one is straight and true.
At the end of assembly, the Rocket is skilfully covered in Oracover in a
scheme that is visually appealing and true to the concept.
The Black Horse Harmon Rocket needs a 15-20cc 2-stroke engine (petrol
or glow) but could also accommodate a 25-30cc 4-stroke as well. The
choice depends on your performance preference.
GRP and vacuum mouldings are used where wood is impractical so the
appearance is maintained and weight is minimised.
Based on a
famous modern
light aircraft, the Landscape
has the kind of curves that
are usually the domain of GRP
mouldings. Black Horse on the other hand have a way with
wood that sometimes defies belief. The Landscape is mostly
wood! Yes, there are GRP parts, such as the cowling and wheel
spats, but the majority of the structure is laser cut wood clad in
balsa - even those curved wing tips!
Flying is of course superb, with a wide speed range and no
hidden surprises at slow speeds, even with the flaps down.
