12.3 Physiological Alarms
At the CMS, you can view and change the physiological alarm limits and alarm levels in
the [Alarm Setup] menu. For details on how enter the [Alarm Setup] menu, see BeneVi-
sion Central Monitoring System Operator’s Manual (P/N 046-007960-00).
12.4 Factory Default Parameter Alarm Settings
The following table lists the factory default alarm settings for all parameters.
WARNING
Be aware that the devices in your care area may each have different
alarm settings to suit different patients. Always check that the alarm set-
tings are appropriate for your patient before you start monitoring.
A potential hazard can exist if different alarm presets are used for the
same or similar equipment in any single area, such as an intensive care
unit or cardiac operating room.
Make sure that the alarm limits settings are appropriate for your patient
before monitoring.
When monitoring patients that are not continuously attended by a clini-
cal operator, properly configure the alarm system and adjust alarm set-
tings as per the patient's condition.
Setting alarm limits to extreme values may cause the alarm system to
become ineffective. For example, high oxygen levels may predispose a
premature infant to retrolental fibroplasia. If this is a consideration do
NOT set the high alarm limit to 100%, which is equivalent to switching
the alarm off.
If you switch off all arrhythmia alarms, the CMS cannot give any arrhyth-
mia alarms. Always keep the patient under close surveillance.
