Secure Digital cards, SD cards are on
the market for quite some time. The
standard was fi rst introduced in August
1999 by joint eff orts between SanDisk,
Panasonic (Matsushita Electric), and
Toshiba, as an improvement over
existing MultiMediaCards. Since then,
several revisions have been made,
bringing faster data rates and densities
of the SD cards.
Hexiwear Workstation comes equipped
with a microSD card reader, allowing
docked Hexiwear platform to store data
on a mass storage media. microSD card
is the smallest version of the SD Cards,
with only 5mm in length and 11mm
wide. The microSD card reader provides
a physical front end for the Secure
Digital Host Controller (SDHC) module,
integrated in the MK64F MCU of the
Hexiwear platform. It allows fast data
transfer between the docked Hexiwear
platform and the microSD card. It can
be used for storing application data,
logging various measurements from
the Hexiwear sensors, but also from the
sensors and other devices, that may be
equipped on the mounted Click boards
™
.
The microSD module itself represents
only a physical layer - to be able to
read and write to the SD Card, a proper
software is required.
To allow connection with the microSD
onboard module, the appropriate DIP
Switch labeled as SW2 has to be set:
switches SW2.1 through the SW2.6 allow
connection of the corresponding SDHC
module pins to the onboard mikroSD
card reader module (Figure 25).
DIP SWITCH SW2
It’s used to route the appropriate Hexiwear MCU lines
to the microSD card module. Turning switches from SW
2.1 (G0.5) to SW 2.6 (G1.2) to ON position will establish a
connection between the microSD module and Hexiwear.
