Grilling
80
Pre-heating
Always pre-heat the grill for approx.
5 minut
es with the door closed.
Do not set a microwave power level
during
pre-heating.
Shelf levels
Grill
Use shelf level 2 or 3 depending on
the height of the food.
Fan grill
Use shelf level 1 or 2 depending on
the height of the food.
Grilling duration
Thin pieces of fish and meat usually
tak
e 6–8 minutes per side.
It is best to grill food of a similar
thickness at the same time so that
the grilling duration for each item
does not vary too greatly.
Thicker pieces need about 7–9
min
utes per side
With rolled meat, allow approx.
10 min
utes per cm diameter.
Testing to see if cooked
One way of finding out how well a piece
of meat has been coo
ked is to press
down on it with a spoon:
Rare: If the meat gives easily to
the pr
essure of the spoon,
it will still be red on the
inside.
Medium: If there is some resistance,
the inside will be pink.
Well-done: If there is very little
r
esistance, it is cooked
through.
Check if the meat is cooked after the
shor
test time quoted.
Tip: If the sur
face of thicker cuts of
meat is cooked but the centre is not
cooked, continue grilling at a lower
temperature setting or use a lower shelf
level to allow the food to cook through
to the centre.
